Corinda Jean Herndon, 70, of St. Joseph, Michigan, formerly of Batesville, died Monday, October 27, 2014.

Born April 21, 1944, in Batesville, she was the daughter of Hayden and Emma Jean Herndon.

At age nine, Cren and her family moved to St. Joseph. After graduating from St. Joseph High School in 1962, she then went on to graduate from Lake Michigan College. Her very first job was helping out in her family's restaurant, Herndon's Tasty Grill. Her specialty was making omelets but she also enjoyed taking care of their very special customers. Later she worked at Burch Printer and Bibco as a sales representative. Cren also spent many years at Assembled Components. Her most recent role was as a caretaker. Cren enjoyed many happy times socializing at the original Mickey's Pub. She also was the second female member of the Elks Lodge 541. Her free time was spent gardening, sewing, reading and whipping up wonderful meals. Cren enjoyed attending all her grandson's Lakeshore wrestling matches and football games. Her most treasured moments, though, were being a loving mother, best friend and companion to her daughter, Dana. She was the best mother any daughter could ever wish for.

Cren is survived by her mother, Emma Jean Herndon of St. Joseph, formerly of Batesville; one daughter, Dana Humes of Stevensville, Michigan; three grandsons, Michael, Tyler and Nicholas Humes; brother-in-law ''Moose'' Bowman of St. Joseph; nephew, Jeff Kirshenbaum of Bloomington, Illinois; nieces, Brooke Gualdoni of St. Joseph and Britney Burkett of Phoenix, Arizona; great-nephews, Josh, Hunter and Colten; and great-nieces, Halley, Frances, Grace and Esther.

She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Thomas; and a sister, Lou.

There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.
