Margaret McMillin, 82, of Batesville died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

Born March 20, 1932 in Lubbock, Texas, she was the daughter of James Neil Smiley and Imogene Perrin Smiley.

She was a 1949 graduate of Lubbock High School and a 1953 graduate of Texas Tech University. Upon graduation, she began a teaching career that spanned over 40 years. She began her career teaching Spanish in Big Spring, Texas. She also taught in Columbia, Missouri and Abilene, Texas. As part of their study, she would take her students on trips to Mexico.

She was a positive and encouraging presence in the lives of her family, friends and anyone she came in contact with. Her love of the Lord was clearly evident to everyone she met. Margaret loved reading, studying and discussing the Bible. She worshipped with the North Heights Church of Christ in Batesville. Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed traveling and camping. In later years, she and her husband, Keith, would take journeys and vacations in their RV.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Dudley Keith McMillin, of Batesville; a son, Dudley Mark McMillin and his wife, Lorraine, of Harker Heights, Texas; a daughter, Laura Ellen Rumans and her husband, Todd of Batesville; three grandchildren, Matthew McMillin and his wife, Tamson, of Harker Heights and Zachary and Lainey Rumans of Batesville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Dr. Donald Smiley and Dr. David Smiley.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at North Heights Church of Christ with Keith Harris and Bill Whittington officiating.

Burial will be in Kyler Cemetery by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers will be Matt McMillin, Zach Rumans, Wayne Tidwell, Cameron Smiley, Tommy Wammack and Todd Rumans.

Honorary pallbearers are John Ward, Wayne Rumans, Dr. David Fielder, Dr. K. Raman Desikin; and the nurses and staff of the WRMC Cancer Center.

Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2014 at the funeral home.

Mr. Keith, Laura and family. So sorry for your loss. She was aGodly, fun loving lady. She and my mom, Mildred, were good friends and Margaret was so helpful the last few months of my moms life. Mom, I will miss you forever. You provided a moral compass for me, an example of what firm but caring parenting is, and a sounding board for all of my crazy ideas and thoughts along the road. Most of all, you along with Dad showed me the true value of loving and being loved in marriage and as a parent. Thank you so much.
