Anita L. Smith

of Maumelle, AR

August 12, 1936 - September 4, 2014

Anita L. Smith, 78, of Maumelle concluded her valiant battle with leukemia on Thursday, September 4, 2014. Anita departed this life peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours with her husband by her side and her family near.
Anita loved her creator and Triune God, and she loved Christ Jesus for dying for her on the cross. She called on the Holy Spirit to bring wisdom and guidance to her daily life, and she exhibited her faith through the strength, grace, and humor she displayed in facing the end of her earthly journey.
Anita loved, probably in this order, life itself with its simple pleasures, her animals, her children and grandchildren, her extended family, her many friends, and her husband of 40 years. In a category of its own she loved the Arkansas Razorbacks. Anita will be missed by all who knew and loved her, particularly the Razorback football and basketball coaching staff, who, for years, she tirelessly assisted with vocal advice from row eight on the 50 yard line, as well as her seat in Bud Walton Arena near the Razorback bench. Although they did not always seem to follow her advice, she was always faithful, nonetheless, in making it available to them, as well as to the officials.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Ola Cloud Hewett and her long time, favorite dog, Scruffy. She is survived by her husband, Edgar, who cared attentively for her in her final days, and who loved her dearly in all of her days; son and daughter in law, Scott & Alisa Lancaster of Batesville; son, Eric Smith of Maumelle; step-children, Michael Smith and Beth Holley (Joey) of Alabama; grandchildren, Brittnam Lancaster and Chelsea Lancaster of Searcy; several step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and a host of loving friends.
Anita's wishes were to be cremated and for her ashes, along with Scruffy's, to be buried between the graves of her parents at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Newport, AR.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 4 PM at the First Baptist Church in Maumelle, with visitation and fellowship to follow in the Activities Building. A graveside service will be held the following morning on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 10 AM at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Newport, AR. Arrangements are being handled jointly by Roller McNutt funeral home of Conway, AR and Roller Crouch funeral home of Batesville, AR.
Anita's family wishes to express their heartfelt and loving thanks to her wonderful and caring physician, Dr. Omar Kahlil and his staff, and the outstanding nursing staff on 3B of Baptist Hospital Springhill, all of whom Anita came to love as they cared for her.
Because of Anita's love and devotion to animals, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, AR 72210 or the Independence County Humane Society, PO Box 3477, Little Rock, AR 72503 both of which are non-euthanizing facilities, in Anita's name.

I never met Anita, but knew Edgar at a young age when I lived in Greenwood, Ms. A person's obituary as this one tells so much about the person and her life as she lived it. God has a special place for her in Heaven as she had a special place for him here on earth. I was touched when I read how she loved animals, especially Scruffy. I think there is a greater purpose when we connect with a special pet to love. God Bless the family in this time of their loss.---Dan

Anita Smith...A beautiful and charming lady to all fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her...from the first time I met she and Edgar...they became instant friends as well as family to all of us at Toadally Treasures Atiq/Fleamkt in Mayflower.
All work would halt when she and Edgar arrived (well, except for Ed) it was like a family gathering...Anita was so sweet and charming I affectionately renamed her Oliva, as she was like someone out of the movie Gone with the Wind.
He and Edgar were so refreshing to be around, they adored one another but was so comical about picking on each other, all in fun.
I cannot say goodbye to her but only will see you later . Doll We will all sadly miss her but know the Master's Bouguet has been enhanced with a beautiful flower.

Edgar & family:
We grew to love our "backseat friends". Anita was easy to love, as she was always smiling, positive and "thanking God". Her strength and loving God, when in pain will be her gift to all who loved. Thank you for sharing a beautiful life

To the family I offer my deepest sympathy and sincere condolence. May the fond memories you shared bring comfort to your hearts. Let the promises of the most High God soothe you as you gain the strength and inner peace to cope with the days ahead. The promise of resurrection and the end of death and pain.

John 5:28,29 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will come out...

Revelation 21:4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes , and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain will be anymore .
