of Earle, AR
August 14, 1932 - August 1, 2014
Max Arlen Elms, 81, of Earle, AR passed away peacefully August 1, 2014 at Broadway Health Care Center following a courageous battle with melanoma. Max was born on August 14, 1932 to the late Alvis and Dessie Elms in Locust Grove, AR. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Sue Elms.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sue Ann Elms, who was at his side until his passing. Also surviving are Max's 2 sons; Max Kevin Elms of Russellville, AR; Eric Lynn Elms of Memphis, TN; and one brother, Zahle Elms and wife Darla of St. Louis, MO.
Max was a member of the Earle Baptist Church. He was active in the church and served as a deacon, teacher and long-time mentor to many. He sang in the church choir and the members enjoyed his solo performances. He was also a long-standing member of the Earle Music Coterie.
Max served his community as a generous and accomplished business owner and employer since 1954. He ran his Home TV hardware store until 2013. He also owned and operated grocery, appliance, manufacturing and real estate development companies during his career. There are few members of the Earle community that didn't enjoy his generosity during their times of need.
Max's smile was infectious. His portfolio of jokes and stories was endless - most of which were actually funny! It was simply a delight to be in his company. The kind care- givers at Broadway Health will attest to this, even during his final days. He was always a true gentleman.

My condolences to a very special family.I know Max will be missed by many. My prayers are with the family.
I had the opportunity to get to know Mr. Elms while caring for him. He was always in good spirits even when I knew he wasn't feeling well. I always looked forward to seeing him when I started my shift and to tell him goodbye when I left. Although I knew he was hurting he never complained. He was very loved by his family. His wife was almost always there when I checked in on him. She stayed by his side until the very end and I am glad I was able to be there with her. My experience with Mr. Elms solidified why I became a nurse and I will always remember him.
Sue Ann, Eric and Kevin,
I send my condolences for the loss of your husband, father and send you love and joy in knowing he will be there to greet you all Home.
Max's jokes are well remembered and I laugh thinking how many he had, how quickly he delivered them.
What a gentle soul.
Lovingly
Sue Ann, I am sad to hear of Max's passing. He always had a kind word to say whenever I saw him while growing up in Earle. He made more than one trip to our home to service our televisions over the years and always managed to get it repaired in short order. I know that you have many memories of a wonderful life that you shared with him. God Bless.
We express our condolences to the family and friends of Max Elms. He was such an all around great guy. They just don't come any finer.than Max. We are so sorry for your loss. We pray that God will give you comfort with the assurance that Max will be in his loving arms for all eternity and that we will all be reunited some day.
Love,
