Luther Forrest WebbI am a Veteran.

of Little Rock, AR

September 25, 1932 - July 28, 2014

Luther Forrest Webb, 81, of Little Rock passed away July 28, 2014 at Baptist Medical Center. He was born September 25, 1932 in Marianna, AR to Guy and Ethel Webb.

Forrest was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milton Webb; sister, Barbara Webb Groves Hankins; daughter-in-law, Karen Holloway Webb; grandson, Jeff Gammel; and the mother of his children, Mary Ellen Webb.

Forrest attended and graduated from the Marianna Public School System in 1950. Upon graduation, he attended Little Rock University and then enlisted in the Navy. In 1958, he eventually settled in Crossett and enjoyed a successful career in the hardware, lumber, and construction business at Ideal Lumber Company. Forrest was instrumental in the growth and development of Crossett. One of his most prideful goals was to teach his children the value of diligent work ethics. His productivity was captured as a memory for not only his children and grandchildren, but for all who knew him.

Mr. Webb attended Fellowship Bible Church, volunteered at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center, loved playing Bridge, enjoyed tending to his roses, and spent many hours traveling and completing projects with his brother-in-law.

Survivors include his wife of sixteen years, Betty Stuart Ripley Webb; daughter, Beverly Gammel (Lamar) of Crossett; and sons, Mike Webb (Staci) and Doug Webb of Crossett. His extended family included Randy Ripley (Claudette) of Little Rock; Lynn Walton of Batesville; Rodger Ripley (DJ) of Conway; brother and sister-in-law, Buster and Carol Stuart, of Little Rock; grandchildren: Haley Beavert (Chris) of Cabot, Courtney Johnson (Michael) of Austin, TX, Jason Gammel of Little Rock, John Michel Webb (Samantha), Bryce Moon all of Crossett, Katie Evans (Chad) of Mayflower, Brooke and Maci Webb of Crossett, Joel Webb of Houston, TX, Christian Webb of Nashville, TN, Pauline Prude (Matthew) of Fayetteville, Susannah, Summie, and Greer Ripley of Little Rock, Mary Stuart, Caroline, and Thomas Walton all of Batesville, Curtis Ripley (Kerri), and Stuart Ripley of Conway; and great-grandchildren: Cortlyn and Mary Keaton Beavert, Katie and Parr Johnson, Nolan Evans, Pryor Webb, and Deacon Ripley.

Graveside services will be held at Pinewood Memorial Park in Crossett, AR at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 31, 2014. Butch Phelps, nephew of Mr. Webb, will officiate.

I was just visiting my sister recently and learned of Forrest's passing. When I think of this man, I think of one who has embraced life to it's fullest. Forrest was a remarkable human, friend, and boss.. I loved his laughter, his whit and who he was as a person. He was always generous, kind, and forgiving. I have many fond memories of our working together at Ideal.. He could calculate in his head faster than I could enter figures into the calculator. He could get mad at you in a second and then laugh with you in the next. He knew how to live life LARGE and FUN.

My life has been enriched by knowing Forrest. I will miss you Mr. Ideal!

Those of you that knew him, know what I am saying. His children have been friends of mine as well. I have fond memories of Ms. Betty and her children as well. I know they will miss him, I do already.

I got to know Forrest @ LRAC. I always enjoyed visiting with Forrest and hearing his stories!

One of my prized possessions is his cornbread recipe. He wrote it down (#2 pencil on tablet paper) and I would like to share in his honor:

2 cups stone ground yellow corn meal, 1 teas salt, 1 teas baking powder, 1/4 teas soda, 2 tblsp bacon grease, (or olive oil) and one beaten egg + about 1 cup buttermilk . preheat cast iron skillet with 3 tblsp bacon grease in 450 oven. pour mix into hot skillet and bake for about 25 minutes.

I think Forrest ate cornbread every day!
