C.H. (Jay) Jones, 78, of Mountain View, Arkansas passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at his home.
Jay was born on February 8, 1936, in Peoria, Arizona to the late Delter Elbert and Mary Elizabeth (Hargrove) Jones. Jay was a veteran of the United States Air Force and spent time serving in Alaska. On January 9, 1959 he married Mary Kay Jones and had 2 children. Joining the California Highway Patrol in 1967, he raised his family in the mountain community of Idyllwild, California while commuting to Banning. A wonderful father, in 1977, he joined his son on a bicycle trip from Missouri to Michigan. He retired from the California Highway Patrol in 1991, and moved to Mountain View, Arkansas to be near his daughter and her family. Here, he and Kay built a house, and worked at the Ozark Folk Center. Jay and Kay enjoyed many hobbies together such as painting and gardening. He was very active in his children and grandchildren's lives rarely missing a ball game, swim meet or concert. Active his whole life, he won both Police and Arkansas Senior Olympic medals for bicycling. Jay was also a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. Known and loved by many for his winning smile and zest for life, Jay was quick to laugh and a friend to all.
Jay is survived by his wife Mary Kay Jones; one son, Jeffery Van Jones and his wife Denise of Austin, Arkansas; one daughter, Trina Gayler of Mountain View, Arkansas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, one due in September, 2014, and the other due in February, 2015.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Delter Elbert and Mary Elizabeth (Hargrove) Jones, as well as one sister, Della Bain.
A visitation will take place on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 10 to 11 AM at First Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held following the visitation, beginning at 11 AM. Jay's friend and former pastor Jackie Fendley will be officiating. Internment will take place at Flatwoods Cemetery in Mountain View, Arkansas.
Pallbearers are Nathaniel Jones, Jeremy Jones, Jonathan Jones, Chris Giberson, and Michael Rau.
