of Harrison, AR

May 5, 1937 - April 22, 2014

Gerald W. Oren, age 76, of Harrison, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at his home. He was born May 5, 1937, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Martin Harry and Viola (Filson) Oren. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Martin Oren; and four brothers, Joey Oren, Don Oren, Silas Oren and George Cork.

Mr. Oren was a member of Mary Mother of God Catholic Church. He married Delores in Houston, Texas September 16, 1983, and they later moved to Mountain View, AR, living there for five years before moving to Harrison in 1992.

Gerald served more than 23 years in the Army with 4 years spent in Vietnam. After active Army service, he worked many years in Houston as a warehouse supervisor for a major food distributor. In his free time, Gerald enjoyed building and serving his church through Adoration. He was a jokester and was always picking at Delores and pulling pranks on others to get a laugh.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Delores (Glick) Oren, of the home; his sons and daughters-in-law, James and Anita Oren of Springfield, Ohio, Scott and Alona Burgi of Oklahoma, and Steven Burgi of Wisconsin; his daughter, Tonya Mahar, of Springfield, Ohio; his cousin, Bobby Margaret Oren, of Springfield, Ohio; his first wife, Barbara Parker, of Springfield, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.

A memorial graveside service was Friday, April 25, 2014, at Maplewood Cemetery, with Deacon Mark Scouten officiating.

We are saddened, and will greatly miss Gerry's smile, and devout faithfulness to Adoration. Easter Sunday he smiled and waved at us from his regular pew in church. All the saints in Heaven are celebrating his arrival. We can't help but rejoice that his aches and pains have ended. We pray God grants his beloved family peace and consolation. With love, Hank & Becky Hartman
