Calvin Tanksley

of Fort Smith, AR

August 11, 1930 - April 12, 2014

Calvin Tanksley, age 83, passed away April 12, 2014 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born August 11, 1930 in Marked Tree, Arkansas to O.V. and Lillie Evans Tanksley.

Mr. Tanksley never let the grass grow beneath his feet as he loved to travel throughout the country working and learning different jobs, but his home base was with his family in Arkansas. He served in the Army as a tank gunner and in 1952, he married Elsie Ionia Kelly in Tyronza, AR. A jack of all trades, he could fix about anything, as long as he had his Red Man, a Little Debbie, some Lays BBQ Chips and maybe a Honeybun. In his free time, he enjoyed being out by the water cat fishing.

He is survived by two sons: Jeff Tanksley and wife Tammy of Fort Smith, AR and Tim Tanksley and wife Catherine of Western Grove, AR; daughter: June Allen and husband Warnick of Sebring, FL; two sisters: Dorothy Bratton of Truman, AR, Linda Sue Stiles of West Fork, AR; three brothers: Kenneth and Carl Tanksley of Harrison and Jerry Tanksley of Berryville, AR; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Calvin was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and son Calvin Michael Tanksley.

Funeral service was Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home with Wayne Bryant officiating. Family received friends prior to the service.

Interment was in Gass Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Tim Tanksley, Jeff Tanksley, Ray Wren, Matthew Tanksley, Colby Verdier and Johnny Verdier
