Mary Ethel Harris, 86, of Conway passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014. She was born April 6, 1927 in Winfield AL to the late John A. and Etta ''Toy'' L. (Erwin) Dykes. Ethel was also preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Cecil R. Harris Sr., sons, William Lee Roper, Cecil R. Harris Jr., two brothers, Raymond Dykes, Leroy Dykes, sister, Maxine Parrish, and three grandchildren, Billy Wayne Harris, William Lee Harris and Tiffany Sane Harris.
Ethel was a longtime member of Liberty Church of Christ in Conway. She was very active in the Church and enjoyed attending the ladies Bible Class and working in the nursery. Ethel also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flower beds, but most of all she loved taking care of her grandchildren and spending time with them.
Ethel is survived by two daughters, Norma Fleming (Lorin) of Alexander, AR and Floy Johnston (Wesley Sr.) of Mayflower, AR, two brothers, Roy Dykes and Troy Dykes (Shirley) all of Birmingham, AL, six grandchildren, Josh Ruple (Heather), Jeremy Ruple (Jayla), Wesley Johnston Jr., Colby Johnston, John Fason (Marsha) and Justin Harris and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday January 31, 2014 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway (501) 327-7727 with Ted Knight officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway with Jonathan House officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Josh Ruple, Jeremy Ruple, Wesley Johnston Jr., Colby Johnston, John Fason and son-in-law, Wesley Johnston Sr. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Salem Place Nursing and Rehab.
I am so sorry to hear this. I just now found out. Ms. Ethel was such a sweet lady and was such a joy to know. Mom and I loved visiting with her and picking her up for church. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers.
Norma, Floy, and Family, it was such a pleasure to know your Mom and Dad. They were among the first that we met many years ago at Liberty. Our memories of them are cherished.
