Frances Jean Crawford

of Harrison, AR

June 19, 1918 - April 15, 2013

Jean Crawford, age 94, of Harrison, finished her life's journey on April 15, 2013.

The second of five daughters, Jean was born on June 19, 1918, to Charles and Mary (Nixon) Inman, and was a lifelong resident of Boone County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Dale Crawford; and all of her sisters, Irma Adair, Louise Inman, Etta Crawford and Marcelle Crawford.

Jean graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1935. She married her high school sweetheart, Dale Crawford, on December 12, 1937, and the two purchased a farm near Bear Creek Springs in 1938, where she lived until the time of her death. The couple was involved in various types of farming for their entire lives. Jean was an avid gardener. She also dearly loved cooking, creating such tasty dishes as chocolate pie and apple pie that were enjoyed by many, but especially by the grandchildren. Her witty personality was a delight to her many friends.

In addition to her life on the farm, Jean was also employed outside the home. In 1955, she worked briefly at Safeway Hardware before she began working at Boone County Hardware as a bookkeeper. Then, using the experience she had gained, Jean applied for a similar position at the Boone County Hospital in 1967. However, the hospital administrator saw that she possessed other qualities, and hired her instead to be the hospital's executive housekeeper, where she was employed until her retirement in 1983. Under her supervision, Boone County Hospital became known as one of the cleanest in the state. She treasured the friendships made during her years of employment at the hospital.

Jean Crawford is survived by a son, Allen Crawford and wife Becky, of Fort Smith; a daughter, Diana Ezell and husband Charles, of Harrison; three grandchildren, Mike Crawford and wife Kelly of Hot Springs Village, Tammy Ward and husband Freddy of Harrison, and Tim Ezell and wife Sydney of Little Rock; two step- granddaughters, T.K. and Danny Crabtree of Little Rock and Jennifer and Gary Weaver of Memphis, TN; her great-grandchildren, Sarah Crawford and Hadley, Drew and Will Ezell; her step-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Dallas Crabtree and Brady and Harper Weaver and Sean Franklin; her sister-in-law, Mildred Crawford, of Harrison; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Thursday, April 18, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral service was Friday, April 19, at Bear Creek Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Mark Enloe officiating. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mike Crawford, Tim Ezell, Freddy Ward, Jim Heuer, Charles Adair and Brad Crawford.

Honorary pallbearers included Arch Ryan, Bert Ryan, Bert Crawford, J.T. Crawford, O.D. Chaney, Kenneth Thomason, Dr. Cathy Clary and Town and Country Garden Club friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bear Creek Springs Baptist Church, 179 DeVito's Loop or to Hospice of the Hills, PO Box 1927, Harrison, AR 72602.
