Freeman Haynes, age 88, of Western Grove, Arkansas, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, in Harrison. He was born March 16, 1925, in Medford, Oregon the son of Murl Fay and Lily Grace (Taylor) Haynes. He married Billie Joann Booze on June 27, 1952, in Redwood Country Church in Grants Pass, Oregon.
Mr. Haynes was a veteran of World War II having served as a sergeant in the US Army in England, France, and Germany and was awards several medals, among them the Legion of Honor. He moved with his family to Arkansas, where he was active in the furniture industry. He loved the outdoors, the Ozarks, and the people of those hills. He was a Christian and a good man. He loved gardening, woodworking, and loved Southern Gospel music, as well as his Dobro.
Mr. Haynes is survived by his wife, Billie Joann Haynes; three daughters, Elizabeth Wilcox and husband Bill, Kathryn Petree and husband Howard, and Marilyn Young and husband Leslie; and five grandchildren.
He is also survived by two special nieces, Verna Rae Strickland and Patricia Sakraida, both of Medford, Oregon; a special nephew, Larry Haynes and wife Carol, of Santé Fe, New Mexico.
Funeral services was Wednesday March 20, 2013 at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home with Brother Glenn Crenshaw officiating. Interment was in Crawford Cemetery.
What an honor it was to have met this wonderful man for the first time last year. The short time with Great Uncle Freeman and his family will forever be in my memories. Lord willing, I will have the honor of seeing his again when I am called Home. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends. God Bless
