Artis ''Art'' Carter, 96 of Subiaco, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013 in Paris. He was born on July 2, 1916 in Subiaco to the late W.O. ''Ode'' Carter Sr. and Martha Arra (Cameron) Carter. Art is preceded in death by his parents, W.O. and Martha Arra Carter and one brother W.O. ''Junior'' Carter.
Art was a life long resident of Subiaco. He was a retired worker of Logan County Road Maintenance, a Coal Miner and a United States Army Veteran of WWII.
Art is survived by his wife of 72 years Lacine (Lee) Carter of Subiaco and one son James Carter of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris with burial in McKendree Cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.. Online guestbook at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com
Pallbearers will be Bill Seiter, Robert Binz, Johnny Carter, Bob Carter, Kyle Carter and Joe Brad Carter.

As a boy, Uncle Art and my Dad took me hunting the elusive Raccoon in the nearby Arkansas woods. In starlight and with flashlights, we trailed the baying of Uncle Art’s beloved hounds in the crisp night air.
While listening to one of Uncle Art’s stories, the far off hounds changed pitch. We went silent. Uncle Art listened momentarily to the dogs. Next, in full voice, he called to the hounds “Get off that deer and get back to work.” The woods went silent.
It was almost like you could hear the dogs thinking “Uh Oh.” Then they were off again. More stories, then again the change in pitch. This time we were doing the running. Soon we came to a big pine tree surrounded by howling hounds. High up near the tree crest we were able to spot a pair of beady eyes, no several pairs of beady eyes. You guessed it, this time the dogs had found a white faced Possum and babies, but to their credit no deer were in sight. Uncle Art said he was glad because he didn’t want to climb way up that tree anyway.
The Raccoons were safe that night. But as we all know, if there is a Raccoon eating Ginseng in Heaven’s Woods, both are in big trouble with Uncle Art and his brother Junior able to round up his departed Hounds.

Although I haven't seen Uncle Art or Aunt Lacine in many years now, he was one of the most unique men I've ever known. Stories of his hunting and fishing exploits are legendary in my extended family, and it still makes laugh right now to remember him telling me about fishing at night on the river. His kindnesses to a young nephew from California will never be forgotten. The world is a poorer place without you, Uncle Art.

Jim my heart goes out to you and your mom Art was a Great man and a great friend. I look back at all the times we were together on Mt Magazine huning gensing I was the little one who got to hang with Art and Golman I called them Johnny gensing seed they would plant and move those plants all over the place they were like a billy goat on that hill and very hard to keep up with I know they both are rejoicing together today. I always enjoyed visiting with Art and listening to his stories He took the time to take me turkey hunting when I was a young man . He made me call that I still have today. I saw him the morning he got his last turkey! Good memories !! He was a great friend , pleasure to be around ! He always had a little time to tell you about LulaBell and old Schmutt.I will miss him.
