Julian B. Fogleman

of Marion, AR

April 17, 1920 - September 17, 2012

Julian B. Fogleman was born in Memphis, Tennessee, April 17, 1920, to J.F. ''Frank'' Fogleman and Julia McAdams Fogleman and was a life-long resident of
Marion, Arkansas. He died peacefully surrounded by his family at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis on September 17, 2012. He was proud to be one of thirteen (13) to graduate from Marion High School in 1937. After graduation, Julian attended the University of Arkansas where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. In 1941 he graduated with a B.S.B.A. He then attended the University of Arkansas School of Law graduating in 1943 with a Bachelor of Laws degree. Following graduation from law school, he volunteered for service to his country in the United States Army. Despite being rejected for being blind in one eye and missing his right thumb, he persisted and was ultimately admitted to service in the United States Army Infantry, where he served in Europe attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. After WWII, he returned to Marion where he began the practice of law, later joining his brother, John, in the Hale and Fogleman Law Firm. The firm later became Hale, Fogleman and Rogers. He was licensed to practice law in a long and distinguished legal career spanning over 60 years. He was very active in the Arkansas Bar Association, serving on its House of Delegates for over 40 years and the Executive Counsel for 6 years. Over the years he was a member of 17 different committees, serving as chair or vice chair on many of them. He was a past president of the Northeast Arkansas and Crittenden County Bar Associations. He was a Fellow of the Arkansas Bar Foundation for over 40 years and served on its Board of Directors. In 1996 Julian was honored by the Arkansas Bar Foundation by bestowing upon him its ''Outstanding Lawyer Citizen Award''. He was appointed by the Governor to the Good Roads Counsel, The Commission on Community Based Rehabilitation and twice as a Special Associate Justice to the Arkansas Supreme Court. Julian Fogleman was also committed to public service serving as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Crittenden County for 7 years, the City Recorder for the City of Marion, and the elected City Attorney for Marion for 31 years. He also served on the Crittenden County Board of Education and the board of Crittenden County Charities, Inc. In 2008, the Marion Chamber of Commerce named him its ''Citizen of the Year.'' He was an active member in the Marion Rotary Club with over 40 years of perfect attendance and was named by Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow. Julian was an active member of the Marion United Methodist Church for his entire life serving in too many capacities to name but was especially proud of his role as chairman of the building committee and his love of singing in the choir. On August 11, 1950, Julian married Melba Margaret Henderson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Justice John A. Fogleman of Little Rock and Frank G. Fogleman of Marion, and his sister, Mamie Fogleman Stokes of Marion, Arkansas. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret Henderson Fogleman; their five children, Lisa Fogleman Heath and her husband John of Marion, Arkansas; J. Barton Fogleman, Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Judge John N. Fogleman and his wife, Nancy of Marion, Arkansas; Jennifer Fogleman Brown and her husband, Paul of Atlanta, Georgia; and Frances Fogleman Irwin of Escalon, California; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Julian loved his church, his family and his Razorbacks. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Marion United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Visitation will be held immediately preceding the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the Church. For those wishing to leave lasting memorials, the family requests you please consider the Marion United Methodist Church building fund.

Lisa, John and the Fogleman family,

Our community has joined all of you in the loss of your Dad, husband, granddad, father in law and one of our strong citizens here in Marion. I did not know your Dad personally, only on occasion when our pathes crossed. He seemed to be a very gentle person and carried his father's name well. When I moved here some years ago, the Fogleman name was one I soon learned was one of long standing and one of those first families of our town. I count it joy to remember seeing him as I would go home after work and he would be coming home in his little white car. As the years progressed, he seemed to sit lower and lower in the car. Moms and Dads are irreplaceable as you all have learned in these last few days. His words of wisdom, his humor and many of his gestures, his phrasing of words, and all of his unique qualities are memories now, but you will treasure each as he comes to your mind. The gift he left you will be the most rewarding as you know the promise from the Bible - you will meet him again. The heritage of being a Christian is immeasureable in it's worth. Rejoice in his long life and his input into each of your lives. He will live on though his offspring.

I 've had all of you in my thoughts and prayers since Monday knowing the feelings you are having. Please know there are those who care, we may not do anything that means very much, but sometimes just knowing that someone cares is the most meaningful thing that can be done.

Sincerely,
Chris Shoemake

My sincere sympathies are extended to the Fogleman family. Mr. Fogleman was a very kind man who took the time to listen, to learn and to teach all those he came into contact with. I was fortunate enough to have learned a great deal from him while working at the law firm. He will be greatly missed.

Margaret, Lisa, Bart, John Nelson, Jennifer, Frannie, and all your extended families, my heart hurts for you today, but it also rejoices when I think of the wonderful mate, father, grandfather, and father-in-law you have had. I am so thankful to have had such a great friend who welcomed me into the Fogleman household many times. What a loss will be felt on earth, and what a treasure has been accepted into heaven. My prayers are for your strength to get through your period of grief and for a feeling of peace as time passes. I know you have so many wonderful memories of Julian which, in time, will bring smiles to replace the tears. Please know that I am thinking of you at this time. Love to all.

Fogleman family and friends. I'm so sorry for your loss. Its not easy to say goodbye to someone you love. Death was never in Gods plans. That is why the grief is so great because death is unnatural. The bible, however, gives us hope at John5:28, 29. There is talks about a time when we will be able to see our dead loved ones again. I hope ithis givesyou both hope and encouragement. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

We wish to extend our condolences to the family at this time. May you be comforted by the promise of the resurrection and the knowledge that soon death will be no more and never again will we have to bury our loved ones. God makes this wonderful promise to is at Isaiah 25:8 where it states that he will "swallow up death forever." I hope you find solace in these words.
