James J. Palmer, 86, of Clarksville, passed away July 16, 2012. He was born July 19, 1925, in Hagarville, to the late Namon and Ocra Faye (Donaldson) Palmer. He joined the Navy at the age of 16, he later changed branches joining the National Guard. Shortly after joining the National Guard he was drafted into the Army. He was a World War II and Korean Conflict Veteran, retiring from the Army after 20 years of service. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Willie B. Palmer; two brothers, Kenneth and Walter Palmer; one sister, Georgia Palmer; one granddaughter, Crystal Dawn Palmer; and one great granddaughter, Carley Beth Hudson.

James is survived by two children, Margarette Cater of Clarksville and Manvil L. Palmer of Clarksville; two sister-in-laws, Marie Lloyd of Crossett and Yvonne Kirkland of Woodstock, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Debbie McClure, Angie Hudson, Melissa Humphrey, Valerie Kay Houston, Tina M. Nichols, Jessica L. Palmer and Susan D. Kemp; 17 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service, with full military honors, at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2012, at Annie's Chapel Cemetery, in Lamar, with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating.
