A. Jean Atwood

of Little Rock, AR

October 30, 1928 - July 16, 2012

After a life-time of serving her Lord, A. Jean Atwood, 83, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away July 16, 2012. Jean was born in England, Arkansas to C.A. and Myrtle Posey. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and brother, Arnold Posey.

Jean taught Sunday School to first, second and third graders for over eight years. She then taught a Mature Ladies Sunday School for over 10 years. During this time, she also served as a Group Leader at Bible Study Fellowship for over 14 years.

Jean was the peace maker of the family. Always ready with a way to show how compromise would solve problems.

While growing up in Hot Springs, Arkansas, she attended Oaklawn Elementary School where she first met and fell in love with her surviving husband of 64 years, Cecil M. Atwood. She is also survived by two children Janis Hecke and her husband Dan of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Reverend Russell Atwood and his wife Tonie of Tenha, Texas. Other survivors are her grandsons, Reverend Ryan Atwood (Kristen) of Boga Lusa, Louisiana, Chase Atwood (Candace) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Taylor Atwood (Courtney) of Dallas, Texas, and Matthew Hecke (Stephanie) of San Antonio, Texas; one granddaughter, Melanie Hecke Streetman (Tony) of Hazen, Arkansas, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

The family expresses deep appreciation to Arkansas Hospice for the wonderful care they have shown to her. Most of all we would like to thank Donna Cleary and Cheryle Barnes, our care givers, for their tender, loving treatment of our Father as well as for our Mother.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, (501)224-8300.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m.,Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the funeral home, with the Reverend Russell Atwood officiating.

The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Arkansas Hospice, 14 Parkstone Drive, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72116.

My cousin Jeanie had always treated me and all of our family with a sweetness that could only come from the heart of God. As much as my memory serves, she had always possessed that kind of demeanor toward everyone she met. She was not onl;y a beautiful lady outwardly, but she showed it in the way she lived. She is surely enjoying her everlasting life at this moment being with her Savior and Lord. My wife and I extend our love and prayers to her family.

We did not have the pleasure of knowing Jean personally. But through the many stories told to us with love by her Grandson Chase Atwood we know she will be missed by all.

Cecil, Jan and Rusty,
It was a great journey and fun time when I was with Jean. As you know, we go back so so far and I have missed her through the years but, I know that she is in a better place. She loved you dearly with all of her heart and was extremely proud of all of you. Sorry that I will not be able to attend her service, I am out of town. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Much love, Sandra Holloway

Jeannie was my first cousin and I loved her dearly!! When I was a little girl her Mother and Daddy lived next door to my parents. Jeannie and Cecil were always visiting Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Skeet and it was my 2nd home! Jeannie was the sweetest, kindest & most soft spoken person I have ever known! She always read me "Little Prudy" books when I was little and started me a collection of them. After Jeannie and Cecil married and had Jan and Rusty, I could hardly wait for them to visit because they let me babysit and help entertain their babies. Jeannie was such a special person in my life. She had such a gentle Christian spirit that will live on each time we all think of her. I know she is happy and healthy now that she is with our Lord.. My deepest love and sympathy to Cecil,Jan, Rusty and their families. Jeannie always reminded me and I hope all of you will remember what she said to me many times..."We Come From Good Stock" . I love you all and wish so-o much I could be there to celebrate her life with you.
Love, Sandi
