Larry G. Ogle

of Compton, AR

August 24, 1941 - June 16, 2012

Larry G. Ogle, longtime resident of Compton, Arkansas, moved from his earthly existence Saturday, June 16, 2012, after a battle with cancer. He quietly passed away at the home he loved and enjoyed for so many years on Gathier Mountain, which is the very place he once stated that he did not start living until he arrived on the mountain as a teenager. So it is very pleasing for our family that he began and left this temporary moment of eternity at the home he loved so much surrounded by the people and animals that meant the most to him.

Larry married Frances Burnett in May of 1960. They lived and worked in this area their entire 52 years of marriage with the exception of a couple of years spent in Oregon where he worked in the timber industry and became an expert in the operation of heavy equipment. He began his career as a long haul truck driver working for Sav-A-Stop in 1967. Larry retired after a debilitating accident in 1991 from McKesson where he had been recognized and honored with safe driving awards for fifteen years in a row.

In addition to his ''regular job'', Larry had been in the cattle business since the 70's so he continued to keep a few, as this was a passion of his. Larry had always been kind to animals and his household never had less than a couple of dogs and cats. After he was home, his passion for taking in stray animals and having pets grew. He would always say ''if you find your way to Popeon's house you can stay''. His very special cat Tag, Larry found on the side of the road and Tag was so grateful that he stayed by his side while he passed and even tried to give cat CPR to revive his best buddy.

He loved his wife, daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. When his health prevented him from traveling, Larry loved for them to take trips and share stories of their adventures with him.

The son of Frank Ogle and Agnes Watson-Ogle-Huskey, Larry was born in Iola, Kansas on August 24, 1941. Survivors include his wife Frances Ogle of Compton, his daughter Cindy Jones and son-in-law Mitch Jones of Nashville, TN, his granddaughter Lindsey Jones and her fiancée Steven Martinez of Gravette, AR, and one sister Grace Allen of Lawrence, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Orval Cron and Charlie Ogle.

Visitation was Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Roller-Christenson Funeral Home.

Funeral service was at County Line Baptist Church Wednesday, June 20, 2012, with Brother Steve Emerson officiating.

Larry was laid to rest at Hill Top Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bob Nelson, Joe Stacy, Johnny Hayes, Buddy Yingst, Jeff Fields, and Charles Clark.

Honorary pallbearers were his brother-in-laws, James Burnett, Johnny Burnett, Jerry Kilburn, and David Carter, additional honorary pallbearers were his friends and doctors, Jimmy Dale Edwards, Skip Corrigan, Jim Selig, Dr. Joe Padilla, Dr. James Hawk, and Dr. Ali Abdelaal.

Memorials may be made to the Ozark Humane Society to help care for those that cannot care for themselves.

Dear Frances, Cindy and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I had a way to relieve your pain at this time. I know words aren't much, but knowing so many people thought the world of Larry definitely helps! We've known each other for a long time, and every time I think of Larry, I remember the closeness of him and my daddy. They were quite a team! Don't you know they met at Heaven's gate, and are still talking right now! Oh, my, the things those two will discuss! Remember, we all love you, and pray for you each day. God bless you all.
