James Earl Carter, Marked Tree, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Three Rivers Nursing Center.
He was born May 26, 1923, in Shannon, Mississippi to the late William Whitten Carter and Mary Anna (Davis) Carter.
Mr. Carter is survived by his five daughters and their husbands, Mary Mildred and the late Willis Jake Hayes of Marked Tree, Janette and the late Freddie Osment of Trumann, Reva and Britt Ferguson of Little Rock, Elisa Justice of Wynne and Tammy and Ray Pritchett of Greenville, Mississippi; thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Reva Pauline (McIntosh) Carter, his son, Jesse Earl Carter and seven sisters, Evie May, Rosa Lee, Mattie Eddington, Willie Pearl, Alice Inez Stewart, Besse and Irene Carter and one brother, Jesse Carter.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, at Black Oak Baptist Church with Carter Ferguson and Brother Jimmy Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in Lepanto at the Potter Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Memphis. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Tuesday, until the time of service at the church.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Larry Loggins, Tad Rogers, Billy Plunkett, John Dillinger, Jonathan Scaggs and Don Howard. Honorary pallbearers are Brother Frank Bufford and the men of Black Oak Baptist Church.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Black Oak Baptist Church.
The domino gang is back together again. James was a wonderful man. Growing up I felt that he and Pauline were my second mom and dad. Sending prayers for all his family. I have so many good memories of them and my dad and get togethers to play dominos. He will be missed.
We just wanted to say that we at Three Rivers wanted to let you all know that we are praying for you and yours in your time of loss. Mr. Carter was a great man and will be missed by all here. It was a blessing to have met you all and cared for such a wonderful person.
