Joanne Eve Webb

of Mountain View, AR

July 30, 1929 - January 23, 2011

Joanne Webb, 81, of Mountain View died peacefully at home Jan. 23, 2011, after battling congestive heart failure for more than two years.

She was born July 30, 1929 at Libertyville, Ill., the only child of Vernon and Marie Andrews Woods.

Joanne is survived by husband Alfred "Junior" Webb of the home; seven children: Karl Burr of Baton Rouge, La., Andy Burr (and Sara) of Winter Garden, Fla., Jan Misenheimer (and Gary) of Mountain View, Frances Webb (and Wayne Jackson) of Mountain View, James Webb (and Vanessa) of Mountain View, David Webb of Cocoa, Fla., and Lori Freeze (and Mike) of Mountain View. She also leaves 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Gregory Burr, the eldest of her children.

She met Alfred after he moved to Illinois to find work and they married in 1956. Joanne's three boys were soon joined by two daughters and then two more sons. The youngest daughter was born after their return to Arkansas.

Joanne had an interest in art and sculpting while attending high school, and her move to Arkansas in the early 1960s coincided with the initial crafts and tourism movement. Being from the Chicago suburbs, a rustic rural lifestyle was something to contend with, but she was in her element for creative endeavors. She dug the natural red clay from ditch banks and used it for sculpting.

She was a founding member of the Ozark Foothills Handicraft Guild (now Arkansas Craft Guild). The organization honored her with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.

She worked at the Ozark Folk Center when it opened in 1973 and worked there many years making applehead dolls, and later as seamstress.

She had a broad skill set -- drawing, scuplting, painting, sewing -- allowing her to excel at anything that interested her throughout the years. She has pursued all types of sewing and needlework, and it would be difficult to name a craft she hadn't tried and mastered. Her most recent projects reflected her longtime interest in beads and buttons, as well as creative uses for necktie fabric.

Friends and relatives are invited to join the family in honoring Joanne, sharing memories and celebrating her life Sunday, Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Mountain View.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Arkansas Craft School, P.O. Box 2694, Mtn. View, AR 72560; Stone County Library, 326 W. Washington, Mtn. View, AR 72560; or Stone County Humane Society, P.O. Box 485, Mtn. View, AR 72560 would be appreciated.

Roller Coffman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dear friends we are certainly sad to hear that you have lost Joanne; she was such a neat person and very interesting to know. As children me and my siblings were classmates and friends with so many of you guys, we have fond memories to cherish. Greg was classmate to me and my twin, Peggy; Andy and Ronnie were classmates; Tracy and Jan and I am sure others were classmates of neices/nephews etc. Give our best to all those we have not seen in so long. God Bless each of you.
