March 16, 1938 - September 11, 2020

Edwin ''Ed'' Scott, age 82, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020. He was born to the late Paul Don Scott and Juanita Mae (Duncan) Clement on March 16, 1938.

Ed was born in Bakersfield, California, but as a young child moved with his Mother to Batesville then Jacksonville, Arkansas. His love of the outdoors and animals along with an uncanny self-sufficiency and curiosity was nurtured by his Grandpa Duncan during his childhood years and remained a central element of his character throughout his adult life. During his teenage years, Ed attended Jacksonville High School where he developed life-long friendships that persist today. He loved being a Red Devil and playing for the football team. Having both brawn and brains, he graduated as Salutatorian of his senior class in 1956. He went on to attend the University of Arkansas finishing his degree in Chemical Engineering by correspondence after pausing to serve a stint in the U.S. Army. His two-year tour (1960-1962) in Seoul, South Korea changed his view of the world and left him seeking good Korean food for the rest of his days. Upon returning home to Arkansas from the service, he met his lovely wife, Robbie (Lasiter) Scott, and began to raise a family holding various jobs working for Martin Marietta, Missouri Pacific Railroad, and the Reynolds Metals Company.

After 17 years in the traffic department of the Reynolds Metals Company, Ed forged out on his own, in partnership with his brother-in-law, Mike Lasiter, to create the entity known today as American Truck & Rail Audits, Inc. (AMTR)-a freight cost audit company headquartered in North Little Rock. As AMTR's co-founder, he helped to lead the company from a simple, two-man operation to the 30+ employee, multi-million dollar revenue company it is today. From AMTR's inception until 2004, Ed was a hands-on instructor/trainer for rail auditor trainees and apprentices in the AMTR auditor certification program, and a leader of the original design team responsible for the development of the certification program. He was also heavily involved in the development of all AMTR proprietary audit software. During his 50+ years in the transportation industry, he worked as an auditor for some of the largest rail shippers in the US. He also proved a wise, giving, and fun-loving company founder who earned the continuing respect and thankfulness of employees across the years to present.

Outside of work, Ed was a salty, and often irreverent, personality who loved having a good time and soaking in the pleasure of simple things. He had an unmatched zest for life that revealed itself in his many passions that included hunting, fishing, boating, traveling, reading, deer camp, guns, and even a nip of Ancient Age now and then. Lacking a strong father figure of his own, he made it his life's work to be an ''ever-present'' and ''involved'' Father to his own children and any of their friends who needed a Dad figure to lean on. Ed was the Dad who built bag swings, pools, treehouses, and horseshoe pits. Ed was the Dad who rounded up everyone for a camping trip or an excursion to the lake. Ed was the Dad who took everyone on an Alaskan cruise or for a vacation to the beach just so we could be together, ''experience'', and laugh. The door was always open at "156 High" for any kid who needed refuge or just somewhere to have fun. There are many still who refer to Ed as a second Dad and remember the opportunities and experiences he made possible for them. He cherished Robbie, his children and grandchildren, his close friends Ray Ball and Wayne Funderburg, his deer camp compadres, his dear brother-in-law Mike Lasiter, and his "adopted" son, John Ladd, among many others.

Ed is survived by his daughters, Summer Bartczak and Sundi Scott; his daughter-in-law, Joy Scott (son Shan Scott deceased); and his brother-in-law, Mike Lasiter (Carolyn). He also leaves behind his faithful and spunky partner of the past few years, Barbara Brown Smith who he loved dearly, eight grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends.

For the safety of everyone during COVID-19, a drive-through visitation will be held at Roller-Owens Funeral home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd, North Little Rock, AR 72116, on Thursday, September 24, 3-5 p.m. Guests will be directed by attendants upon arrival to the parking lot on how to proceed and are asked to remain in their automobiles for a procession and the drive-by greeting of the family. There will be no inside service.

A short video reflection on Ed's life will also be made available for viewing via a web address link that will provided at the visitation and via other digital channels by the family. An interment of ashes at both Concord Cemetery, Furlough, Arkansas and the Funderberg Deer Camp, Monticello, Arkansas will occur at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Amboy Food Pantry PO BOX 95223 NLR, AR 72116.

Summer, Sundi, and Joy:
I was so sorry to read of Ed's death. He and Robbie were dear friends and, even though we didn't see each other for years at a time, I often thought of our many good times together. Ed will be missed for his innate goodness and his kindness to everyone who knew him. If you ever need anything from me, please don't hesitate to call.

He certainly brought a warmth with him whenever he entered the office, it was always a pleasure to see him. And his children and grandchildren show us what kind of man and father he was, he leaves a great legacy.

I was saddened to hear of Ed's passing. I only met him once when he and Barbara visited her son Shane Bickmore here in Idaho. I really enjoyed his company and could tell he really made Barbara happy, and that was enough for me. I was hoping we'd meet again. I know he will be missed.

To all the family,
Our hearts go out to you at this difficult time. We are wishing you peace and calm in the upcoming days as you reflect on Ed's life and his ever continuing influence in this world. He meant so much to all of us who paused on High Street for a few days or a few months. Very importantly, the man and his family know how to have a good ol' time. That, in and of itself, is a cause for great rejoicing about his life!

Ed was more than just another man in my life, he was the best father I ever had. He provided so much to each and every one of us that met him and gave us all a better life. The memories of all our good times- from the Scott family trips to the lake, deer camp, the beaches of Florida, and all our "parties" to just going to grandma's house in Jacksonville to enjoy a good home cooked meal - we all will cherish our great memories with Ed and his family. Ed not only taught us about how to live a good life, but he spent many hours of dedication making sure Summer and I know our algebra, chemistry, biology, and all those hard classes in junior high and high school, and wanted us to be better students and people for knowing more and learning more. He wanted us to succeed, and that we did with his guidance and care and love. I remember so many times with Ed, but the best times were when we were all together, and of course, Ed was always so happy to see you! He and Robbie ALWAYS had the front door unlocked and open for any and all of us kids to come home. You could just see the smile when you walked in the front door - he and Robbie were always so happy a "kid" was "home" - their home was our home, and that speaks volumes about Ed Scott and his family. Even though times are not as safe as "back in the day" - his kids and family are always so happy to see you and welcome you into their home and so happy to see you, come in and have something to eat, drink or just visit. Thanks to Ed and Robbie for encouraging your kids, Summer, Shan, Joy, and Sundi for carrying on your tradition. We love you Ed and will miss you so much!!! You made a huge difference in so many of our lives, and I have never met a better man. With love always, John

To the family of Ed, we met him but a few times and each time were impressed with his wit and humor. He shared a love with our dear friend Barbara and brought a spark and much light to her life, as she certainly did to him. We are grateful for that. Peace and comfort to all of you during a most difficult time.

I had the honor of knowing dear, sweet Ed Scott for only five short years, but his positive impact on so many lives was plainly evident. He raised his family to be kind, generous, loving people who carry on his ways in everything they do. Ed was just one of the finest people one could ever know and I will miss him always. Love and prayers to Summer, Sundi, Joy, Devin, Mike and all the Scott family.

To All the Family and Friends who will mourn the loss of this wonderful man -
What an honor and a pleasure to be able to work beside him and his son for so many years. I started at AMTR in 2002, and we fast became friends. It wasn't long before we were telling military stories to each other and swapping out books. We made fun of characters and of how many sequels could be spun off of the aging detectives that seemed to be immortal. He taught me all the logic of reading contracts and I helped him with his data. He brought wonderful ideas to the table and his long debates with Shan will be remembered forever. They loved to fight over agreeing on something! His door was always open, and Monica and I would spend many an evening there hearing about the "good ole days" of how AMTR got its start. He always greeted me with "well hello there kiddo" and you never ever got the feeling he didn't want to talk. He loved to make other people happy with a kind word or a gift. He was one of a kind.
God Bless you Ed for all the joy you brought in people's lives with your childlike zest for life! I will miss you all my days.
