Mary Jane (Strayhorn) Barnes, 89, of Judsonia passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020. She was born November 29, 1930 in Center Hill, Arkansas to Roy and Ferrell (Williams) Strayhorn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Lloyd Elmo Barnes; sisters, Louise Parks and Velma Turner; son, Lloyd Barry Barnes; and granddaughter, Jessica B. Barnes.

Jane was born in Center Hill, Arkansas but moved to the Plainview Community when she was ten years old. She lived her entire life within five miles of the home place at Plainview. Jane loved the Plainview community and the people who lived there.

The third born of girls, her father depended upon her and the other girls to help on the farm as he had no boys. In times past the days were filled with hard work and long days. A real treat wan on Saturdays when she got to go with her father to Judsonia to peddle the produce they were growing. When she married the man she loved, Elmo, their farm was close by. For a wedding present, her father gave her and Elmo a cow which was greatly appreciated. They were farmers, raising cotton, strawberries, cattle and two children. They had a two room house and the barn was built before a bigger house.

When Elmo went to public work, Jane went to cosmetology school and opened her shop in their home. Many longtime friends and customers frequented the beauty shop. They raised and cared for cattle throughout their lives. She was a hard worker.

Jane loved the community and was a contributing member. Whenever there was a death, she was always one of the first to bring food and help to the bereaved family. She was a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member and took great pride in the Plainview Home Demonstration Club. County Fair time saw her taking bounty to the fair to be judged and most often coming home with a handful of blue ribbons.

Jane and Elmo loved their grandchildren with a love only a grandparent can attest to. And then came the Great-Grandchildren.

After Elmo passed away, she and her sister Louise became the ''Red River Girls'' and champion domino players at the Lightle Senior Center. She lived at the Crossing at Riverside for the past two years and made many new friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Collins (Gary Collins); one sister, Frances Byrd (Charles); three grandchildren, Robert Barnes Collins (Deanna), Joseph R. Collins, Rebecca Miller (Steve); six great-grandchildren, Natalie Miller, Tyler Collins, Avery Collins, Michael Collins, Addison Jane Collins, and Layton Miller along with her nieces and nephews and other extended family members and many many friends.

Mary Jane Strayhorn Barnes was a loving wife, a caring mother, and a friend to all. She truly will be missed and was loved by many.

A Graveside Service will be scheduled for a later date. All services are under the direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home, Searcy.
