October 24, 1940 - October 2, 2018
Robert Hayden McClure, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, October 2, surrounded by his family. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am Friday, October 5, at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home in Batesville. A time of gathering with the family will be one hour prior to the service.
Robert was born to Hayden and Pauline Gibson McClure on October 24, 1940 in Magness, Arkansas. He attended Newark Schools graduating in 1958. On January 5, 1961, he married Carolyn Matthews McClure and they raised two children, Sherry and Bobby.
Robert was a retired cattle farmer. He was a hands on farmer who took pleasure in the daily routine of tending to his cattle. He enjoyed attending cattle and farm machinery auctions. One of his favorite trips each year was attending the mule auction in Columbia, MO.
He was a compassionate man who always tried to help people and he made a special effort to help those who were not able to help themselves.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his children Sherry Hinze (Michael) of Hot Springs and Bobby McClure of Batesville, one brother Edward McClure of Batesville and one sister Ruth Ann McClain of Newark. His grandchildren Sara Holmes, Lauren Reynolds and Cody McClure and three great-grandchildren.
Because of Robert's great love for children memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 or Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 2222, Little Rock, AR 72203.
Robert was/is one of my favorite cousins. He had a smile & sweet words for everyone. His eyes lit up anytime he was around Carolyn or children. Rejoice in Heaven, Robert, til we meet again.
