June 29, 1944 - June 8, 2018
James R. Alexander, 73, of Scott, passed away on June 8, 2018. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Susan Alexander; two first cousins, John Miller of Salisbury, N.C. and Medora Ann Miller of Amarillo, TX, along with a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Anne Alexander, and his grandfather, J.R. Alexander, who built the beautiful estate of Land's End Plantation. Jim embraced his family history - always recalling great and interesting stories. He attended Sewanee Military Academy, Hall High, Ole Miss and U of A, completing his degree from UALR. He was extremely proud to be a U.S. Marine and, as J.D. Simpson said, ''He never left the Marines!''
There will be a private burial service at Mt. Holly Cemetery in Little Rock, AR on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10am followed by a public memorial service and reception at All Souls Church in Scott, AR at 11:30am. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 758517 or to All Souls Church, 4601 Walkers Corner Road, Scott, AR 72142.
. Rest In Peace my friend.
It was such a pleasure to meet Jim a number of years back when he visited here at Mervin Freeman's estate out shooting. He also stayed overnight here. He made a great fuss of my son and me when we visited him at his home in 2004 forever in our thoughts. God Bless, George.
Travel well my brother
So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at Revelation 21:3,4"With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.
Only recently heard about Jim's death and just now looked up his obituary. Our parents were best friends (Herb and Dora Rule) and we often visited back and forth in Scott/Little Rock as kids. Regret losing touch and hope you and family are dealing as well as possible with your loss.
I Loved seeing Jim every time he would come by the England Revenue Office. He would always make sure Mike bought me some pecan every year. Since I retired I have see him once, and He didn't look well. But, Susan, you are in my prayer.
Jimbo,
RIP My Brother. God Speed. You smiling face and laughter will never be forgotten. I will never forget our trip to the Final Four in Charlotte. We had player’s passes from one of the black player’s and as we presented them to the ticket manager, he looked at us and asked how we were related to the black player. I said, we are soul brothers. He smiled and said here are your seats. We were seated next to Scotty Thurman’s sister and watched the winning basket up close and personal. What a memorable trip. And I am lucky to have many mor stories. All that I can say is we love you Boy. Keep on Keepin On!!!!!
A larger than life legend, Jim was truly the lord of Land's End. My years with Jim are unforgettable and would fill the pages of a best selling novel. His instruction in marksmanship and weaponry still live on in me today. The are no words to describe what it was like to be in his presence. I am proud to say that I became a part of some of Jim's best stories. He loved life, feared nothing and left an indelible mark on so many great men. It is hard to know that he is gone. I had not seen nor talked to Jim in many years---and that is my biggest regret.
Jim's Hall High classmates, including me, will remember him as a friend with a big smile! And yes, we'll also remember him "one of a kind!" RIP
We are so sorry for your loss.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Susan, my heart is broken for you. I will cherish the memories made in your and Jim’s home. I’m sure we’ll continue to laugh at the squirrel in the mailbox story. No matter how many times he told it, we laughed until we cried. The big house will be empty without your Jim. But your heart is full of memories.
Jim, you're gone but I will miss and think of you every day of my life. We had a great friendship. I enjoyed all the great times we had together. I loved you like a Brother. It's so hard to believe you are no longer here. Love you. Butch.
Jim I’ll never forget waiting on you at Cotham’s, in Scott. You had a huge personality, and always kept me laughing.
