Claudia "Vidana" Vidana Jennings

of Harrison, AR

March 28, 1927 - March 27, 2018

Claudia Vidana Jennings went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 27th, 2018, one day before her 91st birthday. She was born in Baker, Arkansas on March 28th, 1927 to Claude E. Stephenson and Velma Smith Stephenson. She married Samuel A. Jennings on May 7th, 1948.

Vidana was a graduate of Marshall High School and the State Teachers College (now UCA). She taught elementary school (primarily 4th grade) for 35 years. Her teaching career began at Maple Grove School (near Leslie) and then continued at Marshall Elementary until retirement in 1981. After retirement, Vidana and Sam spent many days traveling the country with various tour companies. Their travels took them to 47 of the 48 mainland states. When they were not traveling and still lived on a farm, Vidana was a very active participant in all of the farm chores. She loved everything related to the outdoors. Vidana became a Christian at an early age. She and Sam attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Harrison until her health declined.

Survivors include her husband of almost 70 years, Sam Jennings of Harrison; sisters-in-law, Betty Stephenson of Herndon, VA and Ramona Beavers of Harrison; two nieces, Pam (Nick) Goodrich of Mountain Home and Lisa (Craig) Janus of Centerville, VA; she is also survived by a special friend and caregiver, Tina Hovis of Harrison. Vidana is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gene Stephenson.

Funeral services for Vidana will be 2:00 PM Thursday, March 29th, 2018 at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Sean Milliken and Mike Moore officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 PM preceding the service. Burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Tilley, Roger Ratchford, Joe Bennett, Jody Bennett, Tom Horner and Chester Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Watts, Bud Walsh, Ted McElroy, John Taylor, Arthur Ralston, Craig Harness, Perry Harness, Larry Hovis and Mitchell Williams. At the family's request memorials may be made to Hospice of the Hills, PO Box 1927, Harrison, AR 72601.

So sorry for your loss may you find peace and comfort in the words spoken at 2 Corinthians 1:3 & 4" Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God

When our loved ones fall asleep in death it can be very devasting. When we think about how certain species of trees can live over 100 + years. We may wonder why we as humans only have only an expectant life span of 70 or perhaps 80 years. Romans 5:12 explains why this is so. Isaiah 25:8 tells us that his his due time, Almighty God will swallow up death forever. He will restore life to many who have fallen asleep in death.

She was my first teacher when we moved to Marshall when I started 4th grade. She set the tone for my being able to feel part of the class without feeling like such an outsider. Being one of very few kids whose last name did NOT match to my parents' last name (Bruce & Cora Morris) was a big deal back then. I felt so weird; but Mrs Jennings made that seem like it was NOT a big deal. I loved her so much for that. She was especially kind and a terrific teacher! Turned out when I was in 7th grade and we moved to the farm, I could see her farm from our yard - gave me another good feeling - like it was home already!
