Dan M. Joslin

of Maumelle,

October 13, 1946 - July 21, 2017

Daniel McEachern Joslin, 70, died July 21, 2017, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dan was born and raised in Magnolia, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Wesley Joslin and Lottie Arnold Davis Joslin. Dan lost his father at age 10 and was raised by Lottie, who taught him well. He grew into a person who was considerably kind and compassionate. He also possessed an outstanding sense of humor, consistently delivering his story lines and impressions with impeccable and hilarious timing. Dan always viewed life through a prism of joy.

Dan graduated from Magnolia High School and Southern Arkansas University. He received his Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). Dan and his son, Greg, were the first father and son to earn the MPA degree from UALR.

Dan's professional career centered on federal service for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Galveston, Tulsa and Little Rock Districts. He was appointed Regional Manager of the Office of Personnel Management during the Carter administration. He received numerous awards and citations for outstanding achievement throughout his professional career. He was especially proud of the commendation he received for on-the-ground innovation dealing with the 1975 Vietnamese refugee crisis at Fort Chaffee, a designated refugee relocation center.

Dan was a 28-year member of MENSA, an organization recognizing high IQ, and was a lifelong avid reader. He enjoyed building and collecting vintage Mustang motorcycles. His Mother and Great Aunt Ott gave him his first Mustang in high school, which he rode EVERYWHERE! In adult life, he developed considerable expertise in building, collecting and showing Mustangs and attended shows and competitions throughout the U.S. His other passion was his vintage Pontiac GTO. He was an active member of the Arkansas Pontiac Association and the Mustang Motorcycle Club of America.

On July 16, 2001, he began his greatest role as ''Granddan'' playing the part of art assistant, dress-up model and story teller to his only grandchild, Paris. It was a journey he undertook with tender love, enthusiasm and zeal, especially the ''dress-up'' part.

Dan is survived by his wife, Linda West Joslin, son, Gregory McEachern Joslin (Jill) and granddaughter, Paris Nicole. Dan leaves a host of beloved cousins and treasured friends. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Family conducted private graveside services at Magnolia City Cemetery, Magnolia, Arkansas. A visitation will be held Saturday, July 29, from 3:30p.m. 5:00p.m. in Little Rock at St. James United Methodist Church, Entrance 1 or 2. Anyone wishing to honor Dan's life may send a donation to St. James UMC, 321 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, AR 72212.

Dear Linda, Greg, and family,

We are so saddened about your loss. We always felt sorry that life's obligations separated us from the fun and warm friendship we had previously enjoyed. Linda, you and Dan were truly a fine couple, and we will miss you terribly. Dan was a unique, highly intelligent, and all around fine guy. We will miss him greatly. God bless you all. Love, Jane and RE.

Linda, Greg and family, Words cannot express the sorrow in my heart for you and our loss of Dan. He was my outstanding supervisor in the Human Resource Office at LRD-COE. He was my leader and I learned so much from his leadership. We were co-workers, but, more important we were friends. Everyone admired Dan and treasured his friendship. I enjoyed his chuckle when he laughed. On training trips together, we always shared family events. He loved you so very much Linda and I'm sure this is exceedingly difficult for you. Greg, was "my son"....and he could "brag about Greg" at the drop of a pin. He was so pleased with you Greg and loved you so very much too. "Rest in peace my friend. Rejoice in your heavenly reward." In time, our pain will ease and all the wonderful memories will take its place. You are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

Linda, I was completely shocked when I was informed of Dan's passing. Though it has been many years since I worked with him at the Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District, I will always remember as a kind and helpful person to all he met. He was very instrumental in helping me in my career and I will always be grateful to him for his guidance. Please know you and your family are in my prayers and thoughts through the coming days.

I am so saddened to hear of Dan's passing. He was a friend from childhood and I have wonderful memories of early birthday parties and play dates as preschoolers. He was a brilliant man and a caring sensitive soul. My prayers are with Linda and his family.

What an amazing friend and neighbor Dan was as we chated so many times out in our yards and especially Dan and Terry in their garages. Dan's kindness and sweet spirit as an individual were hard to compare! Always willing to help us out whenever we asked. He will be greatly missed! Linda, we love you and know you and Dan were so close and loved one another deeply! You, too, have been a wonderful neighbor for the last 13 years! As we move to Fayetteville, we will plan to see you when we are back in town! Much love to you, Greg, Jill, and Paris! We will be praying for you during this difficult time!
