Doris Mae Emeline Talburt

of Omaha, NE

March 24, 1929 - July 16, 2017

Doris Mae Emeline Talburt, age 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Alegent Hospice Home in Omaha, Nebraska, after a brief struggle with cancer. Doris had resided with her son, David Mark, and his fiancée, Patti Davis, in Gretna, Nebraska, since December 2016 due to declining health.

Doris was born March 24, 1929, in McPherson, Arkansas, the daughter of Melvin and Ruby (Vickery) Pendleton. She was the eldest child and helped her mother raise her six siblings until she married the love of her life, David Monroe Talburt, in February, 1947 upon his return from service in WWII. After being married for 20 years, Doris became a mother when they adopted two toddler boys in the late 1960s.

Doris was a loving wife and mother, spending the majority of her life caring for her family as a homemaker, ensuring home and family needs were met first and foremost, and being the spiritual and religious leader of the home. Doris was an incredibly selfless and giving lady, thus when her sons were raised, she found employment helping seniors in need through adult daycare services where she worked until the passing of her husband of nearly 60 years in 2006.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; and one brother. She is survived by her sister, Geraldine, of Wichita, Kansas; her brother, Ernest, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her sons, David Mark (and Patti) of Gretna, Nebraska and Daniel Kevin of Englewood, Colorado; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; a great-grandchild arriving in November 2017; and countless other relatives and close friends.

Visitation was Friday, July 21, 2017, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home. Doris was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Harrison (Capps). Reverend R.J. Sweatman, of Trinity, will laid Doris to rest in a graveside service Saturday, July 22, 2017, beside her husband, David, at Maplewood Cemetery.
