Herbert Haynes Poff, 92, of Mountain View, Arkansas passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at his home. Herbert was born on July 3, 1924 at Haynes Hollow in Bickles Cove to the late Houston Herbert and Sadie Olive (Haynes) Poff. Herbert served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. Herbert was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mountain View, Arkansas where he sang in the choir and helped with worship services at Holiday Travel Park and the nursing home. Herbert was also a mason at Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge #202.

Herbert was a people person and never met a stranger. He loved his Lord and served him faithfully; he loved his family and Christian brothers and sisters. He loved to hunt, work in his garden, and keep his bees. He worked for AP&L/Entergy for 34 years and had been retired for 31 years, he was also very proud of his military service to his country.

Herbert is survived by his loving wife, Maxine (Johnson) Poff of the home; one son, Larry H. Poff of Batesville, Arkansas; one daughter, Brenda (Poff) Branscum of Mayflower, Arkansas; two sisters, Iva Nell Risner and Betty Cartwright; six grandchildren, Meagan Houser, Jon-Michael Poff, Hope Flatten, Heather Couturier, Gary Branscum and Ron Branscum; five great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Houston Herbert and Sadie Olive (Haynes) Poff; two brothers, Bryce and Jack Poff; two sisters, Mavis Kemp and Clovis Hankwitz.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, May 27, 2017, from 10:00AM- 11:00AM at First Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 11:00AM with Brother Jason Ingram officiating. Interment will be at Flatwoods Cemetery in Mountain View, Arkansas following the service with military honors provided by the United States Army Funeral Honors Team and the Stone County Honor Guard.

Pallbearers are Weldon Duncan, Joel Breeding, Fred Ward, Ronnie Risner, Jim McCarn, and Kenneth Sutton. Honorary pallbearers are Alvin McCarn, Eddie Cowell, Entergy Employees, and the Members of Blue Mountain Lodge #202.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 224 King Avenue, Mountain View, Arkansas or the Gideons International Mountain View Camp, PO Box 1134, Mountain View, Arkansas 72560.

Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View, Arkansas is in charge of the arrangements.

We certainly appreciate the special relationship we had with Herbert through the years; and appreciate the relationship we have with the family as Brother, Sister, Neighbor and Friend. Will miss this man, but will enjoy the many memories and ties shared.

Dear Larry and Family,

I'm sadden to learn of the passing of my dear friend, Herbert. We had such a good visit last summer while visiting Mtn. View. We took turns telling stories and we laughed and laughed. You and your family mean a lot to me. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of great loss.
