Mary Fuentes Lester

November 4, 1953 - May 15, 2017

Mary Fuentes Lester was granted her angel wings and entered the gates of heaven on May 15, 2017, joining her husband Thomas Lester. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Mary had touched during her memorable life.

Mary was born in Beebe, Arkansas and lived in North Little Rock the majority of her life. She married the love of her life at age 16, and she and Thomas were married for 38 years until his passing in 2008. Mary touched many lives through her role as a wife, mother, Nana, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and mentor to many of Rodger's and Shane's friends. She had a generous spirit that continues to inspire everyone she crossed paths with. She was known for her biscuits and gravy, loved to laugh, and enjoyed movies (over and over and over again). Her hard fought battle with cancer began in November 2015 and ended when she was promoted to heaven.

Mary is survived by her two sons, Shane Lester and wife Mindy and Rodger Lester; granddaughter Haley Rice; brothers Kenneth Rich and his wife Linda and Tommy Fuentes and wife Jean; cousins Nancy Jo Jeffery and husband Hugh, Rhonda Malone and husband Forest, and Bobby Haugen and wife Carla; sisters by choice TJ Jarolim, Gerianne Jarolim, Cory Emrich, and Vickie Pilkington; and her beloved little Yorkie, Rosie.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Perry's Posse would be appreciated.

Perry's Posse is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that was formed in memory of a godchild, who passed away 3 years ago with cancer. Their goal is to give emotional, spiritual and financial help to as many cancer patients, who are actively taking treatments. This includes giving rides to appointments, patiently waiting with them during their appointments, and any other possible help to help them fight this disease. Their motto is: "Quitting is not an option." They cannot save the world, but they can make a difference. Tax forms for donations can be supplied.

While I haven't kept up with Mary for several years, my brother Mike and I had much fun growing up as neighbors to Mary and Tommy. Spent many hours playing baseball, football and riding bikes around our neighborhood. Mary was a fierce competitor and very good athlete. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. May she rest in peace.

Tommy, I’m so very sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family at this time. Mary had such a warm heart, and great smile that put everyone around her in a good mood. I was just remembering when we were back in High School when I first got my driver’s license. I didn’t even have a car yet, but rode my bicycle to the Minute Man where she worked so I could talk to her. She will be greatly missed.

I did not have the honor to meet Mary in person but knowing her son, Shane, I can imagine what a special lady she might have been. Even though we are sad for her passing, Heaven is celebrating her coming home. You are all in my prayers.
