Charles Gene Waire

of Searcy, AR

April 12, 1940 - March 17, 2017

Charles Gene Waire, 76 years of Showalter's Corner (Griffithville), passed away on March 17, 2017.
He was born on April 12, 1940 to Floyd and Jewel Irene (Dill) Waire.

Charles graduated from Griffithville High School in 1957. He attended college at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and graduated with a bachelor degree in Accounting in 1963.

He believed in the importance of education and was a member of the ASU Alumni Association.
Charles had his first date with Shirley Ann Heathscott of Georgetown in July of 1961. Two weeks later, they were planning their marriage. On, November 22, 1961 they were married.

He worked as an accountant after graduating college for McKesson and Robbins in Little Rock. He was transferred to Reno, Nevada.

They spent just three days in Reno before they decided to move back to Arkansas.

Charles worked for a firm in Little Rock before accepting a position at the newly started Speed Queen manufacturing facility in Searcy.

He traveled back and forth from Wisconsin to get the facility online. He served as the facility's accounting and personnel manager before retiring after 15 years in the early 1980's.

After Speed Queen, Charles took over the family farm from his father. He raised rice, soybeans, wheat, oats and other crops. He remained a farmer until his retirement in 2000.

In addition to farming, Charles was the co-owner of Shirley's Mother Goose Preschool & Daycare Center in Searcy, AR. He worked as the building repairman, taught the children how to grow cotton and served as a financial adviser.

Charles was a warm, compassionate and simple man. His outlook on life was always uplifting and positive. Like his father, Charles never met a stranger. He cherished his friendships deeply.

He loved to laugh, tell jokes and sing to his children and grandchildren. They hung on every word. He sang folk songs such as the ''Red Headed Stranger'' and ''Big John.'' These songs left a lasting impression on his grandchildren, who grew up thinking he had wrote the songs himself.

He was the patriarch of the Waire family. His family and friends frequently sought him for advice, wisdom and guidance. He had an arsenal of warmhearted stories for every occasion.

Charles was proud of his Cherokee descent. He was an avid collector of Native American artifacts including arrowheads and tools.Charles had a big heart and wanted to help the less fortunate. He supported many charities including the St. Labre Indian School, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and Heifer International. Charles loved his family and friends. He was proud of where he came from. He had a great appreciation for life and lived it to its fullest. He was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Charles is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley (Heathscott) Waire of Cabot, Arkansas; one son, Charley Paul Waire (Sherry Clause) of Searcy, Arkansas; two daughters, Mitzi Waire of Little Rock, Arkansas and Lyndia Morris (Eddy) of Mayflower, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Joshua Waire, Lukas Waire (Stephanie), Alex Richmond, Brandi Green and Leigh Ann Walker (Carter); and four great-grandchildren, Austin Crawford, Wyatt Crawford, Greyson Green and Stella Walker.

For a man that never traveled far from Souteast White County Charlie touched a lot of lives. He fills a lot of my childhood memories when we lived east of Showalters Corner. He always had a ready smile and a cheerful greeting. He will be missed. Shirley and the family are in our prayers.
