Eudah Campbell

of Oklahoma City, OK

August 9, 1921 - March 5, 2017

Eudah Campbell passed away at the Quail Creek Nursing Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 5, 2017 at the age of 95. She was born in Lone Pine, Arkansas on August 9, 1921. She was the daughter of Howard D. and Lizzie Askins Kolb and she was the granddaughter of Alonzo and Arminta Arnold Kolb and John and Emma Reed Askins. Eudah was an only child, but she had many beloved first cousins with which to play.

Eudah started first grade at Lone Pine's one-room schoolhouse in 1927, but she and her parents moved to Clarksville in 1928 when she was 7 years old. Then she then attended the Clarksville Public Schools and graduated high school with the Class of '39.

During he last two years of high school Eudah worked for the KB & Company Mercantile half-days and all day on Saturday. She then worked full time for KB & Co. for a short time after graduation.

Eudah married Holmes Campbell on October 22, 1939. They were married almost 51 years before Holmes passed away in 1990. After her marriage, Eudah took a job as a bookkeeper for a produce company and worked for Sugar Creek Creamery for several years.
She and Holmes opened and operated the Campbell's Feed Store in 1950. Eudah managed the store, took customer orders, and handled the bulk sales while Holmes kept the supply of feed in inventory and made local deliveries to the customers. After several years in business, the couple closed the store and Eudah found other employment, while Holmes continued with his trucking occupation.

In 1963 Eudah started a 20 year employment stretch with the Clarksville Public Schools. She first worked with the Michie School lunch program until she was hired to become the head cook and general manager of the Hurie School lunchroom in 1966. When the schools consolidated in 1972, Eudah was transferred to the Middle School lunchroom to take over the cooking and managerial duties there. For several successive years during the summer recess between the Spring and Fall school terms, Eudah attended manager training and nutrition classes at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She also had the honor and pleasure to serve as the President of the Arkansas State School Lunch Service Managers before retiring in 1983.

Gardening, sewing, quilting, camping, and especially fishing were some of Eudah's favorite hobbies. She made a large vegetable garden every year. The extra vegetables from her bountiful harvest were either sold, canned, frozen, or preserved in some manner. In her later retirement years, Eudah quilted with the ladies in the Ludwig community on a regular basis. She and Holmes went fishing every chance they got, with Piney Creek and the Arkansas River being among their most favored fishing holes. Fouche River in Saline County was the designated spot for camping during the late Spring and early Summer and they made it a family event, which included the dog. Eudah seemed to draw every snake on the creek when she went fishing and she was overly scared of them. Sensing Eudah's fear, the dog proved to be her protector more than once, so he was an integral part of any fishing trip.

Eudah is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Gary Frank of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Carolyn and Gary Malhoit of Phoenix, Arizona. She has one granddaughter, Laura Malhoit also of Phoenix. Several of her first cousins also survive her.
