Minnie B. Spencer

of West Memphis, AR

January 4, 1922 - February 24, 2017

Minnie Bunyard Spencer, 95, of West Memphis, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. (Bill) Spencer, and two sons, Robert Glenn Spencer and James Larry Spencer. She is survived by her son, Charles Spencer Sr. (Mary), seven grandchildren, Corey Spencer Medders (Lisa), Jon Medders, Charles Spencer, Jr. (Tonya), Christie Spencer, Alison Spencer Durham (Adam), Emily Spencer, Trevor Spencer, and 6 great-grandchildren.

By the age of 10 she realized the Lord was calling on her talents to play spiritual music. Her first hymn she learned to play was ''The Name of Jesus is so Sweet'' and has always been one of her favorites. By age 15 she had her own Saturday morning radio program playing and singing hymns, which she enjoyed tremendously.

As an adult she married Bill, who, during his 23 year career with the Air Force, went on to become Senior Master Sergeant. Minnie decided her calling was serving the Lord through her music and being housewife and mother of three sons. During their military career they were stationed at many bases worldwide, where she provided music with her piano skills. Since their military retirement in 1962, the family moved to West Memphis, AR and were active members at First Baptist Church. Once again, Minnie used her musical talents to serve the Lord playing music for Sunday School and Wednesday night fellowship.

Minnie's talents were not limited to music. She crocheted beautiful afghans
And tapestries, sharing them with many people over the years, including a wall tapestry of the 23rd Psalm on display at First Baptist Church. She loved gardening, and her family and friends delighted in her cooking skills. One thing she never gave up was driving, although her family, friends, and fellow church members wished she had. You knew Miss Minnie was coming when you saw the American flag, which she always proudly displayed, flapping from her car at high speeds!

I am so sorry you have lost your loved one . A scripture I find comforting is revelation 21 verse 4 which says and death will be no more.

Minnie was always so sweet with her wonderful smile. She could make anyone feel better. I always admired her energy, and I loved to see the American flag whipping on her moving Cadillac! She will be greatly missed. Praying for you, her family.
