John Howard Rand departed this earth on January 29th, 2017 at the Community Medical Center of Izard County in Calico Rock, AR. He was born March 27, 1938 at home in Rodney, AR to John Henry and Sylvia Marie Smothers. Howard is survived by his wife Alteen Parnell Rand of over 60 years, three daughters, Arleen (Curt Frazier) of Powder Springs, GA, Felicia (Ernie) Hendrickson of Bella Vista, AR and Amanda (Tom) Cujak of Rogers. One sister, Virginia and brother in law Todd Sanders of Dolph, AR and grandchildren Kendra Frazier (James) Kring of Fayetteville, AR, Kendall Frazier of Powder Springs, GA and Cheyenne Villines of Fort Smith, AR. Two sisters in law Ruby Hargett of Rodney, AR and Nancy and brother in law Keith Southard of Springfield MO and cousin-brother Lynds Arthur Rand. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Desmond Southard and Doyle Rand and sister Ima Lee Sanders. Howard was a 1956 graduate of Norfork High School. He loved nature, wildlife, fishing and hunting. He loved to sing and loved music, especially old time Gospel, country and rock and roll music from the 50's and 60's. He loved history especially family history and in true Rand nature "never met a stranger". Services will be February 1, 2017 at 2 P.M.- graveside only at the Hand Chapel in Jordan AR with Pastor and longtime friend Garland Skidmore officiating. Honorary Pall Bearers are T.J. Hively, Glen Jackson, Ermel Bell, Hoot Rush, Bob Colley, Jim Allen, Elvis Williams and Joe Sawyer. A special thank you to all of his music friends that he loved so dearly. Thank you to all of the thoughts and prayers from churches, family, friends and loved ones. The family would like to thank Dr. Lane, the nursing staff, therapy department and all of the people that cared for Howard at the Community Medical Center of Izard County hospital in Calico Rock, AR. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Community Medical Center of Izard County Auxiliary in Calico Rock, Arkansas in loving memory of John Howard Rand.

Heaven has received another angel. What a amazing man, husband, and father, grandfather. He loved his family more than anything in the world. Loved to share his stories, always had a contagious laugh and a smile that could light up the world. I will miss him and joking with him. Just want you all to know I will be praying for strength and healing. Love you all.

The news of Howard's passing saddens me. I always considered him a good friend. I'm glad I got to visit him at decoration this year.
