Janice Lee Bishop

of Little Rock, AR

November 11, 1953 - January 22, 2017

Janice Lee Rogers Bishop was born in Paris, AR November 11, 1953. She went to meet her Lord Sunday morning January 22, 2017.

She is preceded in death by her father Oatman ''Caleb'' Rogers and her nephew Jason Cleveland. She is survived by her mother Kate Rogers of Magazine, AR, her husband Terry Bishop of Little Rock, AR, her son Caleb Bishop (Courtney) and the joys of her heart her grandaughters Chloe and Caleigh Bishop. She is also survived by her sister, Leona (Herschel) Cleveland of Paris, brother-in-law Jerry (Jo Kay) Bishop of Hot Springs and Alan (Tammy) Alvey of Conway. Also surviving her are nephews, Jared (Christi) Cleveland of Springdale, AR, Jason (Maiga) Bishop of Little Rock, and Velon Marshall of Conway, AR; nieces, Jodiane (James) Tritt of Little Rock, AR, Jadyn Cleveland of Dallas, TX, Natalie (Oakland) Evans of Searcy, AR and Christy (Donnie) Campbell of Bryant, AR, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Jan grew up on Mount Magazine where she excelled in academics and athletics. As a Junior she set the state high school girls basketball scoring record in one game with 51 points and as she always pointed out ''and that was before the three point shot'''. She graduated from Magazine High School after her Junior Year as the Class Valedictorian.

She attended Ouachita Baptist University where she was a member of the Ouachitones, Ouachita Singers, the EEE's and named Miss Ouachita Baptist University and competed in the Miss Arkansas Pageant. She graduated with honors in 1975. She then obtained her masters in communicative disorders from UALR.

Jan worked as a Speech Pathologist for over twenty-five years with the Pulaski County School District.

Jan Bishop was put on this world to entertain. She was most at home in front of a crowd singing. She performed with Todd Suck Symphony for several years and then her rock and roll bank the Loose Ends until her death.

Jan never met a stranger, and everyone who met her fell in love with her instantly. She was a natural comedian who made everyone around her laugh. She attributed her gift of humor to her mother who didn't want hers because she doesn't much like to laugh.

The world is a little sadder with the loss of Jan, but rest assured heaven is being entertained.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Roller McNutt Funeral Home Conway, Arkansas. Memorial Service will be 2:00pm Friday, January 27, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church Little Rock, Arkansas.

Terri and Caleb, My heart is broken as I'm sure you are feeling the same. She loved you both dearly , as she loved all her family.I know you miss her but never forget God loves you as he loves Jan, if you have excepted his love in your heart you will see her once again as I'm sure she told you many times of Gods love, not only as she talked about Gods love but as she sang of his love in the songs she held close to her heart. Jan has always song from her heart, Iwill always miss hearing her soulful voice as she sang, as well as her wild laugh. She is one friend I shall always miss in this life but one day I will see her again..thanks for the memories my friend, see you soon maybe now you will get the rest you needed so much ... love you always my dearest friend, Jeana

I first met Jan in the 70s when we both worked at Tolleson Elementary. We quickly developed a friendship at school that spilled into our personal lives. It was a friendship that lasted through the decades. Jan was the perfect example of a true friend. She was always supportive, encouraging, open, and genuine. I felt the close friendship with Jan that was never effected by the time or distance between us and will forever treasure the memories of the times we spent together. Though she is no longer with us, Jan had a profound impact on many and her positive spirit will live on forever in the hearts and souls of all who knew her.

I loved Jan at OBU and loved running in to her around Little Rock. What a joyful person. My dad, Bob Gladden, worked with her at the school district and she kept us all in stitches. My sister, Gay Gladden Pappin, was in Ouachitones with her. We all saw her at the Ouachitones reunion just a few years ago. There's a big loss in the world. Praying for the family.

My friendship with Jan began before we started school where we were classmates from the 1st through 9th grade. She then "jumped ahead" a year, graduating with the class ahead of me. She was a sweet, funny, precious, incredibly talented lady who is so much a part of my memory. I know she and her dad are making beautiful music together in heaven and look forward to the time I can hear their wonderful voices again. Deepest condolences to all.

Jan was in the class just above mine. She was such a beautiful lady and was always so kind to those of us in the classes behind her. Years later when I lived in Little Rock, we re-established a connection just briefly. She was still the beautiful classy Jan that I had known in high school. I was sad to learn that she suffered serious health problems. She will be missed. Look forward to seeing her again some day.

A one of a kind lady who made us laugh, moved us through her music and passion for life. Jackie has shared so many stories/memories from "growing up" in Magazine and so many of those recollections had Jan at the heart of them. I personally loved her immediately when I first met her. I thank God for bringing me to my husband and my husband for bringing me to Jan. God bless her and God bless all of us who love her.
