September 14, 1954 - January 5, 2017

Larry Charles Gilbert, 62 of Clarksville, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 in Clarksville.

Larry was born to Charles and Stella Gilbert on Sept. 14, 1954, in Clarksville, Ark.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Stella and Charles, and by his son, Charlie.

Larry is survived by his wife, Lori, of 29 years; a daughter, Amanda Colvin of Clarksville, a son Levi Gilbert and wife Brittany of Conway, and a son-in law, Kyle Colvin of Clarksville; eight grandchildren, Auston, Colton, Matthew, Noah, Canaan, Kayla, Declan and Everly; a brother Lonnie Gilbert and wife Rose of Knoxville; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Raised in Clarksville, Ark., Larry graduated from Clarksville High School Class of 72 and proudly and regularly reminded us of his football captain exploits and adventures. After high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for two years as a Communication Specialist and received an honorable discharge.

Larry was a hard worker. His civilian career started with a 10-year stint as a roughneck on oil rigs throughout the southwest. The bulk of his employment years were spent at Sara Lee Hosiery in Clarksville where he worked for over 18 years. Looking for a new adventure, he accepted a job working with his brother-in-law for Marathon Oil as a Materials Coordinators, in Malabo Equatorial Guinea, West Africa, and then two years as a land man in Pennsylvania for Western Services.

Throughout his life, Larry always loved children, and they loved him. One of his passions was coaching boy's basketball, baseball and girl's basketball for the Johnson County Boys and Girls Club. He faithfully coached many teams over the years.

Larry retired earlier this year and enjoyed his hobbies of fishing, hunting and being Papa to his children and grandchildren and any other child that needed his attention.

Up until hours before he departed this world, Larry was engaging his family in conversation, winking and flirting with his wife saying, ''I love you'' and telling Auston it was time to go to bed because it was a school night. This legacy of love and care he leaves with each of us as an example of how to live life to the fullest and make a difference in the life of everyone you meet.

Memorial service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel.

I was a class mate of Larry's and he was always one of my favorites! Such a nice, happy guy. I saw him at our 40th high school class reunion and he was still the same guy. I don't think I ever met you, Lori, but my prayers are with you and your family for God's comfort and peace at this difficult time. Cherish the many memories you must have spending time with this great guy. Rest in Peace Larry.

Larry will be greatly missed. He was a very comfortable man to be around; never pretentious, nor intimidating. His calm demeanor showed his security with His Lord. We always enjoyed Larry and Lori's visits. We look forward to visiting with him again when our Lord takes us to Him.

What a precious man Larry was, married to an equally precious woman. Lori, our hearts go out to you and we're holding you close in our prayers. The two of you were quite a team, always enjoying life, helping anyone and everyone and loving your family and friends. You both always loved with selfless and sacrificial hearts, putting the needs of others before your own. This is why you're both loved so deeply. We will meet again and enjoy Larry's ever present smile. Love and prayers for all.

I knew Lori first, because, I worked for her and her mother, and, we were neighbors. When Larry came into her life, I KNEW, he would change hers forever. He was so good to Lori, loved her with all he had, and, a great Dad to Charlie, Amanda, and Levi. He was such a hard worker, and, the thing that sticks out about Larry to me, is, that smile, every time you saw him, especially when he was cleaning the fish, he and Lori had caught on that day. They loved fishing together and I'm glad they got some more of that time in this last summer. Willie and I have remained friends with this family, for almost 30 years, and, they don't come any better, but, they are more like family! We'll miss Larry terribly, but, will be there for Lori and the kids, to help whenever needed. We'll see you on the other side Larry, then, we'll have one heck of a reunion!! Love You & Lori & all the family!! Paula & Willie Killane
