Duggins, Donald (Don) Allen of Mountain Home, AR, peacefully passed away in his home the evening of December 17, 2016 surrounded by loving family. Don was born on November 6, 1935 in Rea Valley, AR to Carol (Putnam) and Ulis Duggins. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Warren, Nadine, Harry Lee, and Karen. He is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Iva (Purkes) Duggins; 5 children Lynette (Paul) Boyd, Sybil Perkins, Donald (Debi), Ronald, and Patrick (Diane); 19 grandchildren; PJ (Andrea), Iva Nicole (Lucas), Christin, Jessica (Chris), Stephanie (Michael), Sean (April), Mike, Katie (Scott), Donnie (Heather), David, Dana, Adam (Katie), Travis (Lindsay), Tammy, Linsey (Vince), Maggie, Derek, Ryan, and Rachel; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law Loma Purkes and Relda Purkes. At the age of 9, Don's family moved to Beaumont, TX where he went on to graduate from South Park High School in 1953 and attended 2 years at Lamar University. He was a city fireman in Beaumont from age 18-21, received an honorable discharge after 12 years of services with the Texas National Guard, was a Mason for over 50 years, and had a fulfilling 36 ½ year career with Mobil Oil as an operations superintendent and training coordinator for fire & safety. During his work with Mobil, he traveled the United States and Canada, was sent for specialty training at Texas A&M University, and moved with his family to Illinois in 1972. It wasn't until after his retirement in 1994 that he returned home to the Arkansas he always loved. Don was known for his love of dogs and his passion for music, both of which he passed on to his family. He acquired his license to judge dog shows from the American Kennel Club, where he was active for 20 years judging both in the U.S. and Canada. You could say, music started it all as Don fell in love with his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Iva, on a school band trip. While Iva's musical career may have been cut short by marrying Don on April 30, 1954, he went on to play in several bands. Music was central to his life up to his very last days, and a love he and Iva passed on to their children and grandchildren through singing and playing musical instruments. He was a faithful Dallas Cowboy fan from the team's inception, Bob Lilly as his favorite player. Calm, laidback, sharp as a tack, Don enjoyed his retirement. He would take his grandchildren fishing, for rides in his antique car, or play his guitar in the early days, later you could find him watching Jeopardy, the History Channel, or catching up with friends and family through email. An inspiring, hardworking, loving, Christian family man, he will be truly and immensely missed. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM Monday, December 19th with family receiving from 6-8 PM and funeral services will be 11 AM on Tuesday, December 20th. Memorial mad be made to Hospice of the Ozarks, 774 Long Street, Mountain Home AR 72653. Services are being held by Roller Funeral Home 25 Co Rd 27, Mountain Home with Pastor Micah Wells.
