Minnie Lazar

of Helena, AR

December 8, 1924 - December 4, 2016

Minnie Lazar passed away peacefully, in the arms of her son and daughter, on December 4, 2016, after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was born on December 8, 1924, in Corpus Christi, Texas, as the only child of Jim and Alia Sahadi. While being an only child impressed the importance of the nuclear family, she was raised among a large group of cousins, in Gregory, Texas. The sense of family permeated her consciousness, and was evident her entire life. She is predeceased by her husband, Mike Lazar, with whom she built a clothing business, which for many years was a landmark on Cherry Street.

She is survived by her 4 children, Pat Lazar, Terry Lazar Montgomery (Vance), Dr. Michael Lazar, Jr. (Linda), and Jim Lazar, as well as her 3 grandchildren, Michael Lazar III (Fang Fang), Lia Lazar, and Matthew Lazar. She is also survived by her 3 great grandchildren, Sana Lazar, Felix Lazar, and Jason Lazar, as well as her niece, Rita Lazar Green, her nephews, Joe Lazar, Jr (Mary), Steve Lazar (Linda), and great nieces, Laine, Stephanie, and Aly Lazar, and great nephew, Stephen.

Minnie was most proud of how frequently her children and grandchildren would call and visit from all over the U.S., Europe and Asia. These gatherings frequently included friends and family, who would travel from places in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. In her later years, she enjoyed her church, gardening, and visiting with her ''posse.''

The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Ned Pillow, for his compassionate care of our mom, and special love and gratitude to her ''3rd son'', Frank Clancy, who has always been her close friend and confidante.

There will be a rosary at 5:00 p.m., followed by visitation from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2016, at Roller Citizens Funeral Home. There will be a Requiem Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016, with internment to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers are James Kelley, Frank Clancy, Jimbo Boyd, Steve Lazar, Matthew Lazar, and James Milam. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Lazar, Jr. and Mike Lazar, III.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund.

To all the family, Mrs. Minnie will be greatly missed by so so many. The first time I met her it was like I had known her all my life. There was never an occasion that her family was not mentioned in our conversations; she loved you all with all her heart. To show how caring she truly was, she always made sure that we received something for Christmas from her just to show her love and thanks. She was and will remain a very dear lady in the hearts of us all and heaven is a better place with her presence. God Bless you all!
