Paul W. Craig Sr., age 93, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on November 17, 2016. He was born on May 17, 1923 in Warren, Arkansas, to Claud W. Craig and Beulah (Adcock) Craig. He enlisted into the United States Merchant Marines at the beginning of WWII and served his Country as a merchant seaman aboard the SS Steel Traveler making numerous trips transporting supplies through the dangerous waters of the North Atlantic. On April 6, 1944, he married Nina E. Long, of Brooklyn, NY. He was a lifelong resident of Little Rock and member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. His working career was with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, where he retired. Paul is survived by his wife of 72 years, Nina; three sons, Paul Craig Jr and wife, Deborah, of McKinney, TX; Mike Craig and wife, Susan, of Temple, TX; Bill Craig and wife, Cherie, of Nashville, AR. They were blessed with six grandchildren, Lauren Reichard and husband, Craig, of Austin, TX; Natalie Keene and husband, Walker, of Corinth, TX; Jacob Craig of Charleston, SC; Jared Craig of Conway, AR; Stephanie Young and husband, Andrew, of Canyon Lake, TX; Allison Craig of Austin, TX. They were blessed with two great granddaughters, Sydney Keene and Emerson Keene of Corinth, TX. He is also survived by a sister, Louise Craig Youngblood of Panama City, FL.
Family requests any memorials be made to a Veterans charity of choice or to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Private graveside service at Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock.
Paul and I were 4A switchmen together. Unlike some of the other old timers, Paul was always willing to help and teach the younger switchmen. He was in every sense of the word, a class act. This world could use more Paul Craigs.
