Howard Duane Smith, 87, of Batesville, died Friday, October 7, 2016.
He was born in Calico Rock, Arkansas, on May 11, 1929 and was the son of John Duel and Mary Captola (Herndon) Smith.
Howard was a loving father, grandfather, and friend. He loved to play dominos at his brother's shop in Cushman. In his younger years, he was a square dancer, dance caller, and taught square dancing. He loved driving his 18-wheeler truck and was a driver for over 40 years for Smith Trucking. He was a member of the Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church and loved his church family.
He is survived by his son, Calvin Smith and wife, Allyson, of Batesville; his daughter, Brenda Tucker and husband, Gerald Mack of Batesville; six grandchildren, Trinity Smith (LeaAnne), Chasity Hastings (Shawn), Toni Hubbs (Andy), Travis Tucker (Emily), Christie Lewis (Daniel), and Kayla Loague; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, James Smith (Tiny) of Batesville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Darlene Stroud Smith; and three brothers, Gene Smith, Billy Smith, and Carl Dean Smith.
Pallbearers will be Trinity Smith, Travis Tucker, Dalton Smith, Shawn Hastings, Andy Hubbs, and Jeffery Heuer.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel with Jonathan Baxter officiating. Burial will follow at the Barnes Cemetery in Bethesda.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at Roller-Crouch Chapel.

Mr Howard was a dear family friend and I always enjoyed his visits with my dad,,,,, I bet he is having a long talk with him right now,,,,,, all of the Smith family is in my thoughts and prayers
