Jimmy Ray Young

of Little Rock, AR

May 6, 1930 - September 12, 2016

Jimmy Ray Young, 86, of Little Rock, died on September 12, 2016. He was born May 6, 1930 to Linnie Bryles and Homer Glen Young in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bernie Glen Young; and sister, Norma Leigh Young Levy. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Coxon Young; son, David (Mary Maurice) Young of Columbus, Georgia; daughter, Susan (Scott) Allen of Little Rock; six grandchildren, Emma Bryles Allen, Henry Jackson Allen, Mary Clark Allen, Charlotte Louise Young, James Traeger Young and Mary Frances Young; and a niece, Marty Young Cossey, of Conway.

Jimmy graduated from Little Rock High School (Little Rock Central), where he was a member of PIE Fraternity, in 1947. He attended Little Rock Junior College (UALR) before joining the United States Air Force in which he proudly served his country during the Korean War. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1958.

Working as a manufacturer's representative for several Arkansas companies, including JR Young & Associates, he sold mechanical equipment statewide. In later years, he served as security supervisor for the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau where he thoroughly enjoyed welcoming local community members as well as a host of internationally known dignitaries and celebrities.

Jimmy served as Vice President of the Arkansas Chapter of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees). He was a faithful servant and devoted parishioner at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where he was a lead usher for 14 years. He also served on the board of directors for The Cathedral School and as coordinator of Trinity's men's dinners.

While Jimmy had a passion for art, antiques and service, there was never anything he would have rathered been doing than spending time with or applauding his family. He was the dad who was always there for every soccer game, basketball game, play, Christmas pageant, awards ceremony and father/daughter dance. His devotion did not falter when he became ''Granddaddy'' at which point he cherished every opportunity to be there for baptisms, Nutcracker performances, confirmations, dance recitals, graduations and Grandparents' Days.
Jimmy's family expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the lovely people of Pleasant Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation and Gentiva Hospice who provided extraordinary care for him in recent months.

A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock. Interment of ashes will be in the Cathedral garth with a reception to follow in Morrison Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral or to Alzheimer's Arkansas.
