Joseph F. "Joe" Baxter
January 6, 1935 - September 20, 2005

    Joseph Fulghum “Joe” Baxter, Jr., age 70, of North Little Rock went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, September 20, 2005.  Born January 6, 1935, in Little Rock, the son of the late Joseph Fulghum Baxter, Sr. and Laura Agnes Baxter Price, he was a 1953 graduate of Little Rock High School, a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, and a 1962 graduate of Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science.  He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1982.  He served as a board member of the Arkansas Automobile Dealers Association from 1973 – 1976.  Joe was a partner of Brown-Baxter Motors in Conway from 1970 – 1974; and the owner of Joe Baxter Buick-Pontiac-GMC in Benton from 1974 – 1976.

    Joe was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, Pulaski Heights Masonic Lodge #673.   He was a former member of Pulaski County Democratic Committee as well as the Faulkner County Democratic Committee.  In 1968 he served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago and in 1972 he was an alternate to the Democratic Convention in Miami.  He served as Finance Chairman for the State Democratic Party from 1972 to 1974.

    Joe was a licensed embalmer and funeral director and served many families during his years in funeral service with Roller Funeral Homes.  Following his retirement as a funeral director he served as a prearrangement counselor.   He was a caring and compassionate person and will surely be missed by all those he touched.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Mildred “Pie” Bickham Baxter.

    He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Pardo Hansen Baxter; a son, Joseph Andrew “Drew” Baxter of Little Rock; a daughter, Kathryn Anne “Kathy” Rook and her husband Scott of Little Rock; stepchildren, Rose Ann Hansen, Val Hansen and his wife Susan, Stuart Hansen and his wife Julia; and grandchildren, Andrew France, Jack Hansen, Carter Hansen and Olivia Hansen.

    The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2005 at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church with Reverend Victor H. Nixon, Reverend Lynn Lindsey and Reverend James P. West officiating.  Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. at Tillar Cemetery, Tillar, Arkansas.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501-224-8300).
