Coy Harold Melton, 78, of Batesville, Arkansas passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 8, 2016, at his residence.
Born February 23, 1938, in Pima, Arizona, he was the son of William Wells Melton and Mentie Melton.
Coy served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, also during his naval career, he was part of the recovery operation of Korean Airline Flight 007 that was shot down by the Soviet Union September 1, 1983. He spent many years as a Navy recruiter in Batesville before his retirement after 23 years in the US Navy.
Survivors include two sons who carried on the Navy tradition, Jason Wells Melton of Newport News, Virginia and Sherman Melton of Merced, California; and a loving companion, Carol Bornhorst of Batesville. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Alaina Moore of Newport News, Zoe Melton of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Saijal Melton of Fayetteville; one great-grandchild, Forrest Emery Moore of Newport News; and two sisters, Shirley Dorhoufer of Tucson, Arizona and Vida Saline of Safford, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Jima Lee Stephenson and Hazel Barksdale; and three brothers, Jack Melton, Von Melton and Ray Melton.
There will be a private family service.
