Dixie was a kind person who was so welcoming and gracious to me as a 15 year old who was lost and alone after my mother died. She took me in for a short time and we had fun together, telling secrets and laughing. She loved to sing and I loved to listen to her sing, she was not one who wanted the limelight but was content to be a part of the whole. Good bye sweet friend and if we should meet up there I hope you and your sister Patsy will greet me with a song. God bless all of the family who will miss their sister, mother, grandmother. Though we were not related I will always feel that we are.

I first remember Dixie in high school, she sang in a sextet with Patsy Summers, Jimmy Summers, David Benedict, my aunt Eva Butterfield and I think Halla Butcher. She is been a longtime friend. Sympathies to her family and friends.

I first met Dixie when I joined the Heart of the Hills Chorus in the mid 1990's. I later became the director of the chorus and was able to spend more time with her. I must say that she had a wonderful strong voice. She sang in quartets and enjoyed participating in the chorus shows and sing out's. She was always friendly to everyone and very warm and welcoming to all new members. She had a funny sense of humor and a soft giggle. I am sad that she is no longer with us but know that she is singing strong in heaven where she will be waiting to welcome all of us who are left behind to mourn her passing.
Please accept my most sincere and heartfelt sympathy for your loss. Dixie will never be forgotten.

Dixie was the yellow rose of our family.
I remember her and a friend running, giggling across a pasture behind our house; it was a short-cut and the domain of a mean- snorting bull. Her bravery allowed her to escape unharmed.
Dixie loved to sing, play the guitar and write songs. She also wrote poetry and short stories. Her quick smile was as welcoming as a spring rain with the flowers that followed.
Dixie was an excellent sister. I will miss her.
Joe.
