October 2, 1935 - July 26, 2016

Marianne S. Eastin, 80, died on July 26, 2016. She was born in North Little Rock in 1935, the daughter of Hazel Cross Shepherd and Laban B. Shepherd.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Lee Eastin, III, and two sisters, Wanda Shepherd Cochran and Betty Shepherd Cloud.

Marianne graduated from North Little Rock High School, earned an associate degree from Little Rock Junior College in 1955 and a bachelor's degree from UALR in 1976. She worked at Teletype (later AT&T and Lucent) for 31 years, becoming the first woman department head, and the Personnel Director. She turned down an offer to become Executive Assistant to the President of AT&T Europe so she could watch her grandkids grow up.

She was responsible for responding to correspondence from international leaders. She turned down a permanent job in the Clinton Administration.

She was a regular Pulaski County Election Commission volunteer at Cammack Village for more than 25 years. She had a broad range of interests including bowling, bridge and other card games, attending Murry's Playhouse, shopping, traveling with the LR Razorback Club and eating out with friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Campbell (Donald, III); two grandsons, Aaron Campbell (Jonathan Webb) and Andrew Campbell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The memorial service, led by Reverend Frank LeBlanc, will be held on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, 6400 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, AR 72207. Andrea, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I will never forget the day Marianne approached me at my City of LR desk and said, "Have you ever thought about changing jobs?" And with that, my many years at Teletype began. I worked for her in the Labor Relations Department from 1980 until she retired. She was more than my boss; she was my mentor, my cheerleader, and most importantly of all, she was my friend. I am so sorry I will not be able to attend the services; I will be out of town. Love and prayers to you all, Terri Ratcliff
