Helen Elder, age 86, of Midway, Arkansas passed away Friday, July 22, 2016, in Mountain Home. She was born April 10, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to John R. and Marie (Hilbert) Barrs.
Helen was active in the Catholic Church throughout her life, once being honored as Woman of the Year at Saint Monica's Church in Carpentersville, Illinois. She remained active after moving to Midway at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, serving in family ministry, as a money counter, with the Legion of Mary, as a Sacristan and Eucharistic Minister, and also served terms of office as President and Treasurer for the CCW. She also served as the secretary for the American Legion; a busy lady who was appreciated by all who knew her.
Helen is survived by her husband, Thomas, Snr. of the home, two sons, Thomas, Jr (Katherine) of McHenry, Illinois and Kevin (Heather) of Algonquin, Illinois, two daughters, Kathleen of Carpentersville, Illinois and Patricia of Wadsworth, Illinois, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, her sisters, Florence and June and her brother, Richard, as well as by her brothers-in-law, John and Gerald. She was preceded in death by her parents, and eight siblings.
A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2016, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Reverend Norbert Rappold, Celebrant. Visitation will be Sunday from Noon- 9 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m., conducted by Deacon Mike Johns. Entombment will be in Baxter Memorial Gardens.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Helen will be missed by many. She was an outstanding member of the Legion Auxiliary working to support our troops and veterans. May your memories give you comfort and may God give you strength and peace in this sad time.
