On Friday, June 25, 2016 we lost Alvie Needham, our dear daddy, papaw and friend. He was married to his beloved wife Fay Holowell Needham for 49 years before her death in 2011.
Alvie was the father to two children, Paul Needham of Thida and Paula Long of Batesville. As the children grew up and the family expanded he gained a daughter-in-law Rose Needham and a son-in Law Leasul Long. He was blessed with five beautiful grandchildren, Andy Needham and his wife Melissa of Batesville, Emily Lumpkin of Jonesboro and her husband Aaron , Paul J. Needham and his wife Leann of Bradford, Alexa and Landon Long of Batesville. He also had six very special great-grandchildren, Tye and Casey Needham of Batesville, Addisyn Lumpkin of Jonesboro and Andrea, Matthew and Wyatt Needham of Bradford.
Alvie was born and raised in the Lafferty community. He shared his childhood with two sisters, Bobbie Needham Frazier of St. Louis, and Ivon Needham Parr of Batesville.
Daddy was devoted to his family. He enjoyed spending time giving advice, and pointing his grandkids in the right direction. He enjoyed family dinners and hanging out with his kids and grandkids. He loved camping, boating, fishing, hunting and traveling with his family. He spent a lot of time doing lawn work and gardening.
He retired from LaCroix optical in Batesville and since then he spent his time working in his wood shop helping raise his grandchildren and reading his Bible.
He was a member of the Cushman Baptist Church and loved his church family.
Visitation will be at Roller-Crouch Funeral home, Wednesday June 29th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Services will be at Cushman Baptist Church Thursday June 30th at 10:00 a.m., with Brother Glen McKay officiating. Interment to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Our Daddy and papaw will be dearly missed. Time will not fill the hole that has been left by his passing. His wisdom, compassion and kindness will never be duplicated.
