I sure loved Mr. Gene, he was a large part of my growing up. He was at City Hall a lot so I didn't know to be afraid of him, I just loved him to pieces, so did Mom. I'm sorry for your loss, he will be remembered fondly by many.
Gene Hicks was a good friend during high school and while I lived in Wycamp. We only lived 2 miles from his home. We lost track of each other after we moved out-of-state but I frequently thought about the many happy memories we shared.. It saddens me to hear of his passing but I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family for your loss.
We are so sorry to hear of Gene's passing. He was highly thought of by all of us. My dad, George Powell worked many years with Gene. My mom remembers well you, Nancy offering to help pack when we transferred from Helena to Newport. Gene used to bounce me on his knee. I do remember him well. I was 10 when we moved. My dad passed away 5 years ago. Those 2 are probably catching up with one another in the afterlife.
God bless you and your family

Mr.Gene was a wonderful man!So sorry for your loss, he will be missed.
So Sorry to hear that Officer Hicks has passed. He gave me my drivers license test when I lived in Marianna. I took my test on a cold, fall day in 1974 and my car was so cold that it kept dying. I was very pregnant, nervous & embarrassed but he was patient. He asked when my baby was due then promptly warned me about my "California stops"; and still passed me. He also gave my brother & sister their test and worked with my Mother & Step-Dad at Doughboy in West Helena before becoming a trooper. He was a well respected man. Sorry for your loss!
So sorry about your loss prayers for you and your family
Nancy, again let me tell you that my heart goes out to you and your family. I know the Lord is with you. God Bless you
Mr Hicks gave me and a friend a ride back into town when our car broke down. He flashed the lights and showed us the inner workings of his patrol car. I have never forgotten that.
Awesome Man

Awe, he was a sweet man! He was the officer on duty when I was in a bad car accident. He came to see me in the hospital to see how I was & to tell me how lucky I was to be alive! He was a great officer!
Nancy, children & grandchildren,
My thoughts and prayers have been with you all everyday since our visits by phone and social media informed me about the condition Gene was in. We all know that Gene is with our Lord and Savior now and in perfect peace. I know the days ahead for your family will be difficult and it will seem impossible to get through, but just remember to keep your eyes fixed toward Heaven and keep looking to God for comfort knowing Gene will be there to greet you with a host of other family members who have gone before along with and most importantly, Jesus Christ
Himself.
