James Owen Phifer, age 70, of Harrison, passed away Friday morning, May 13, 2016, in Harrison. He was born November 14, 1945, in Bergman, the son of Jim Helm and Claris Sneeringer Phifer.
He was a lifelong resident of Harrison. He married Anna Lee McKinney June 20, 1964,in Harrison. He worked as a rock mason, farmer, and trucker. He was an avid squirrel hunter and passionate about local antiques and history. He was known to be as stubborn as his donkeys and loved caring for all his animals. He was the number one goat milk producer in the late '70s in Boone County. He enjoyed listening to Gospel and Bluegrass music.
James is survived by his wife, Anna, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Lisa Phifer; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberley and Ron Skiver; his sister, Jean Rogers; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jimmy; and a grandson, Josiah Phifer.
Funeral service was Monday, May 16, 2016, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Frank Whiteside, Leo Dye, Galen Phifer and Dustin Phifer officiating. Visitation was an one hour prior to the service.
Interment was in York Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Levi Skiver, Jessie Phifer, Jamie Phifer, Jeffery Phifer, Drew Bowman and Ron Skiver.
Honorary Pallbearers: David Smith and Austin Farnam.
