Lt. Col John B. Bany, USMC (Ret) passed away Saturday April 30, 2016, at Good Samaritan Care Society. He was born September 4, 1931 in Kenosha, WI to John B. Bany, Sr. and Elizabeth C. Rodenbucher Bany. He married Susan Hayes on Nov. 8, 1986 in San Francisco. He was an active member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church and retired from the U.S. Marine Corps. He founded the Twin Lakes Marines. He was an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts. He was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. John had various interests and loved fishing, woodworking, sausage making and bread baking. He is survived by his wife Susan Bany of Mountain Home; a son Chris Bany of St. George, Utah; 4 daughters: Pat Christie of Oceanside, CA, Carol (Steve) Newman of McKinleyville, CA, Liz (Bill) Rae of Oceanside, CA and Katie Smith of Mill Valley, CA; 2 step-daughters:Laurie (Richard) Donahue of Mechanicsville, VA and Donna Motherway of West Springfield, MA; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Liz Long of Little Rock, AR, Mary (Steve) Toth of Mountain Home, AR and Annemarie (Gary) Flynn of Racine, WI; 2 beloved Kuvasz dogs: Janka and P.J. Visitation will be from 4 until 6 PM Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Roller Funeral Home. A vigil service will follow at 6 PM at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday May 5, 2016 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Reverend Stan Swiderski, Celebrant. Interment with military honors provided by American Legion Post 52 will follow in Baxter Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.

Did he serve on Treasure Island, San Francisco Bay?

I was stationed there....1974 - 1975. I was a disbursing clerk. HQ was across the street from the disbursing office....CO was a Lt. Colonel Bany, his Sgt. Major was last name of Hyatt.
