November 15, 1920 - September 8, 2015

Vernice Bell Jackson Roberts, age 94, of Harrison, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Highlands Nursing Center in Harrison. She was the first daughter born to Bert and Ruby Jim (Norris) Jackson November 15, 1920, at Omaha, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Truman Roberts; three brothers, Vaughan, Vale, and Voyt Jackson; and three sisters, Verba Whitney, Verlee Martin, and Velma Blevins.

Vernice married Truman Roberts September 13, 1940. She and Truman were active in their church, Liberty Assembly. They had a farm on Dubuque Road between Harrison and Omaha. To this union three children were born, Carolyn, Gwendolyn, and Wendell. In 1961, Truman and Vernice sold their farm to a nephew and moved to Sanger, California. Carolyn and Wendell moved also to finish their education. Vernice continued as a homemaker and was also a seamstress for people in the community. They were active in their church also. In 1990 they moved back to Arkansas and celebrated 50 years of marriage shortly after moving. Vernice enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, quilting, and sewing.

Vernice is survived by her sister, Vivian Curtis, of Lead Hill, Arkansas; her daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Ross Café of Stockton, California, Gwen and Jerry Blevins of Omaha; her son and his wife, Wendell and Maggie Roberts, of Salinas, California; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.


Funeral service was Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with grandsons, Cameron Café and Cliff Roberts officiating. Visitation was an hour prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers were Vernice's grandsons, Cameron Café, Cliff Roberts, Eric Parker, Matt Parker, Alex Parker, Brian Blevins and Jason Clendenen.

Interment was in Gass Cemetery

Sorry we are not there in person to pay our respects to a truly beautiful person. Our world was a nicer place with Aunt Vernice in it. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
