Nancy Overall Weatherly

September 4, 2015

Nancy Ruth Overall Weatherly, 84, died on September 4, 2015. Born February 15, 1931 in Memphis, TN, she was the second of three daughters born to the Reverend Daniel Robert and Virginia Ruth Hunt Overall and grew up in parsonages around West Tennessee and Western Kentucky as Reverend Overall served Methodist churches in the Memphis Annual Conference. Nancy graduated from Humboldt High School in Gibson County TN, and attended Lambuth College in Jackson, TN before graduating from Methodist School of Nursing in 1952.
She was a very active and athletic person, playing varsity basketball in high school during the days of six on six rules for women. She served as a Registered Nurse for nearly two decades before retiring to become a homemaker.
Wilson Kennedy Weatherly became her husband on August 7, 1965 at St. Stephen's Methodist Church in Memphis, TN. With this marriage she became step mother of two sons, James Douglas (Judy L.) and Mark Willard (Judy K.) Weatherly. In 1967, they had a son, David Overall Weatherly (April).
Nancy was a devoted Christian and member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN for 50 years. Her dearest circle of friends were members of her church and Sunday School Class. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women, a Stephen Minister, sang in the senior adult choir, and participated in as many services, studies, missions, and ministries as her health permitted. She was out spoken and often challenged her family, church, and community to try their best or be told to try harder.
As a loving wife, parent, and grandmother she was a driving force of love and positive influence in the lives of her husband, sons, and extended family. She and Wilson supported all their children and grandchildren by attending countless sporting events, plays, recitals, graduations, and anything else involved in family life. She loved watching basketball, especially the hometown Tigers and Grizzlies.
Nancy valiantly and faithfully cared for her husband until his death in 2007, even as he suffered for years from both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Nancy is survived by her two sisters, Ann Kinney and Danette Rosenberg, her three sons, as well as 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church 480 S. Highland, Memphis, TN at 6pm on Tuesday, September 8 with visitation immediately following.
