Frederick Louis Dinger

of Pleasant Grove, AR

January 5, 1949 - August 14, 2015

Frederick Louis Dinger, a resident of Pleasant Grove, Arkansas, was born January 5, 1949, in Berwick, Louisiana, to Everett Joseph and Lillian Nichols Dinger. He died on August 13, 2015, at the Baptist Health Cardiac Hospital in Little Rock.

In 1985, Louis settled in Stone County and operated an auto repair business for many years before retiring. A quick wit, a good sense of humor, a friendly smile, and a willingness to always make time to listen to other people made him many friends. If you were lucky, Louis might invite you over for a bowl of his famous Cajun chicken-sausage gumbo and rice, served with his special potato salad, followed by some pickin' and grinnin' alongside a comforting bonfire.

Nothing gave Louis more pleasure than teaching. He very patiently taught mechanics, cooking, or guitar and keyboard lessons to generations of interested beginners. He always made sure those he mentored knew how proud he was of their drive to learn. Their accomplishments gave him purpose and satisfaction.

Louis led a simple life and didn't care for fancy things. He was content to sit on the front porch with ''Peanut'' and ''Cartman,'' his red-heeler dog and big orange tomcat. With preferred companions nearby, he'd play favorite tunes on his guitar while glancing around for signs of wildlife. Louis enjoyed the great outdoors, and although once a skillful game hunter, in later years watching the deer play in the pasture provided more entertainment than shooting them. It was common to find him down at the pond fishing, or just sitting in his old truck relaxing and enjoying the harmony of the hilly countryside he treasured and called home.
Above all things, Louis held honesty and family as most important, and his greatest joy in life was in giving whatever he could to those he loved, be it time, money, or possessions. People often said, ''He's a good man,'' but the three words no one ever heard Louis Dinger say were, ''What about me?''

He is survived by his step-son, Randy Berry of Pleasant Grove; three step-grandson's, Thomas Fuller of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Sam Berry and Max Berry of Mountain View; two sisters: Rose Bartley of Patterson, Louisiana, and Eva Prine of Bayou Visa, Louisiana; a step-sister, Bebra Mitchell of Bayou Vista, Louisiana; and three step-brothers: Charles Mitchell of Gibson, Louisiana; Ben Mitchell and Carlos Lombas of Morgan City, Louisiana; a nephew, Jim Bob Mitchell of Pleasant Grove, and a niece, Janet Mitchell Sileo of Sterling, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home, 1701 West Main Street, Mountain View, Arkansas, followed by burial at Green Pastures Cemetery, Bob Davis Mountain Road, Pleasant Grove, Arkansas.
